DT store partners, a little help? (self.starbucksbaristas)

Hey! My store has been pushing for higher customer connection rates, I've been a partner for almost a year, but still find dt really awkward. I was wondering what, if any, advice/conversation starters you guys have? If i have time in between, I usually start with an awkward "how was your day?" or in the am, "off to work this morning?" but, thats about all i got. pls drop advice, much love partners!

A bigggg thing that i started doing (which actually worked out well) was to acknowledge the awkwardness but try to laugh it off. so a few times, when we were waiting on food and such, i’d say “so how about that weather?” and they’d usually laugh and say “yea it’s been crazy” or some other awkward shit.
If you do the “how are you” option, and they ask you back: “ya know, i’m doing pretty well, there’s a sale on avocados at [insert grocery store] so i’m super happy about that.”

Honestly, take 20 seconds and write or draw something on their cups or pastry bags. Draw a heart, write thank you or “have a great day”. So many people don’t want to talk. But who doesn’t appreciate a cute note or a smiley face? It’s helped with our score and our tips! I’ve noticed people that appreciate it the most are elderly people or young adults
