super tired after shifts? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by coffeebuoy
is anyone else exhausted after their shift? at my store i only work 5.50-5.75 shifts 5 days a week, so i feel like i shouldn’t be as tired as i am? i feel like this holiday season is so busy. but maybe it isn’t and it’s just the stress of covid that’s getting to me. even on my days off i barely want to leave the house and do things because i feel this deep exhaustion in me.

I feel this way too and sometimes I think maybe im enjoying too many sugary drinks at work so I should eat healthier to boost my energy. but also sometimes I get mid shifts and its an awkward time to do anything before or after work so it makes me feel as though all I do is work and have no real relaxation time..

ah that sucks. i hate mid shifts. i’m a morning worker so i’m always working during peak

In my opinion those length shifts are very tiring and feel very long because you only get one ten minute break (which is fair in my opinion, before I used to work 5-8 hour shifts with no breaks whatsoever at my old job) but if you work long enough to have a lunch your shift is divided up a lot more into manageable pieces. It’s also been getting super busy in general.

my sm wants to prioritize the hours we get which is fair, so she does 5.75 instead of 6 hours with a lunch, because with a lunch you get 5.50 instead. but it’s just such a long time. and sometimes i will get my break early which means a straight 3+ hours of being on bar/ovens which is so exhausting :/

y’all are getting tens on those shifts,,, huh
[deleted] 2 points 2y ago
Yes, the only time I didn’t get a ten was when I only worked three hours to cover part of someone else’s shift and I feel like even then I might’ve gotten one if we weren’t so slammed. Even if you only work a four hour shift you still get a ten.

those shifts are still long! With the seasons changing, it’s kinda throwing everyone off i think

no matter what, i usually feel tired too! i mean it's a hard job, on your feet all day and running around. especially with all the rona stuff happening, it's super stressful. i hope you're able to take care of yourself!!

I'm so tired. I requested an extra day off, that I can't really afford right now, just to sleep in...

I woke up at 10am, a solid 7 extra hours of sleep.

I still feel like shit.

i’m so sorry :( i feel for you...i open a lot and i nap a lot...i was shocked the other day after an open because i literally napped all day but still easily slept all night. guess i’m really tired.

I 100% feel this way. Every day I walk into my night shift I’m expected to do milk mats & floors, bars & counters, sweep and mop lobby, multiple trash runs, and bathrooms.
I know I’m expected to do most of the hard labor and I’m getting super run down. I got scheduled 6 days in a row.. 5 out of those days closes as well. *sigh*

I find that working more hours and less days doesn’t get you burned out as fast as working everyday

Agreed. I do 2-3 days a week, 8 hours a shift. It is a long day but not every day.

Regarding business, we are comping at 20%. Why is starbucks absolutely booming right now? And the customers are getting meaner, less kind and more hostile.
