I remember my first day of bar training I spilled an entire hot americano on my hands. I ended up alright but it still hurt. I don’t think corporate would do anything about the lids tbh things come fucked up all the time. Best thing that can happen is to order extra and throw out the dangerous ones (assuming the next batch doesn’t have the same problem)

idk i guess we’ve just been unlucky cos i feel like this has been a problem for a hot minute now. they’re just so flimsy and the lid will be fully on, but the second you apply pressure to the cup (i.e.... picking it up) it pops right off. unfortunately i have ~breathable~ material for the top of my shoes so it went straight through (and like, slid into my shoe/sock) and now i’m blistering. i probably would’ve stayed if it wasn’t my foot but i couldn’t handle the sock and the shoe rubbing on it for another five hours :/ and it still hurts 🥴

Hey this sucks but I do want to point out that waterproof material shoes are in the dress code for a reason. Many people ignore it in favor of other shoes but it’s a rule that’s there for your own protection. Get some Shoes for Crews or other kitchen-safe, spill-safe shoes.

these are my nonslip shoes i got from walmart for my previous food service job. i had no idea they werent waterproof until the coffee was already on my foot but trust me i am aware now :) (also it poured down my leg and like. INTO my shoe too. not much i can do about that)

That really sucks! I'm so sorry that happened/that they weren't truly waterproof. I thought I'd bring it up because honestly?? I've seen one too many coworkers spill or take a close-to-concussion fall from not having good shoes and am a strong proponent of proper footwear: if Starbucks is going to allow customers to order extra hot drinks, serve the base water temperature at a scalding degree, and not protect their baristas, then we have to do what we can to protect ourselves, unfortunately. The water temp is a total hazard.

Make sure you file an incident report. You want to make sure there's a paper trail to support your claim if you need further medical attention.

my manager made sure i did before i left, dw :) but thank you

We've noticed at our store that we've had a lot of problems with the last batch of venti hot cups. We had an incident report a couple days ago for the same thing.

Ok so this isn’t just my store? I’ve had like five different venti hot drinks spill/explode all over me when I just picked up the cup normally. Freshly brewed coffee was the worst one. We’ve been double cupping all of our venti drinks because we keep getting burned but it feels SO wasteful :/

My store too! It only seems to happen to me tho
finnjiman2 points2y ago
Me too!! It happened to me twice in one day and I was so mad lol

I’ve had more problems with the hot cup rims deforming after you put hot liquid in them. Hot cups that can’t even hold hot liquids......
I’m sorry this happened to you, that’s awful 😢
ih8yogurt1 points2y ago
That too!!!!
TherudestLiz1 points2y ago
The rims on our venti cups have been horrible. I triple check after I lid venti drinks after having 2 customers spill on themselves. I still cringe whenever someone in DT takes their cup by the lid 😬

Awe, I hope you’re ok. I worry about this all the time. I just started at Starbucks. Anyway, I hope you feel better💙💙
