Husband of a shift here. Without going into too much detail, am I able to call HR on my wife’s manager? It’s not anything harassment-related. He’s not following what little Covid guidelines you guys have in place to protect employees (or more likely protect the store’s ability to stay open), expecting the world from short staffed closers, and threatened to fire my wife (who absolutely busts her ass there) over a single thing the next time she did it that she forgot to do closing last night after having her open for two weeks. Is there anything I can do short of talking to him in person and making shit weird for her moving forward?
Not trying to be a controlling/overbearing partner or anything. It just breaks my heart when she comes home defeated over the garbage you guys have to go through and 90% of it seems like it’s from the manager being a putts.

The *only* thing you should do is support your wife in whatever she’d like to do. You cannot call PRC on your wife’s behalf, if she wants to report her manager, then you need to encourage her to advocate for herself.
In no way, shape, or form should you speak to her manager. You will absolutely get her fired.

As a former HR professional and manager (not with Starbucks) I would absolutely not take a report from a family member under these circumstances. You should encourage your wife to contact PRC or her district manager and continue to be a support system for her at home.
And also, I am not doubting your wife at all, but consider that you are only hearing your wife’s perspective of what’s going on and as a good husband you are taking it all at face value.

I mean, come on, we all know the Covid protocols are being treated as an annoying joke at the best of times

You could consider filing a report with OSHA or your local Public Health body about the Covid safety violations. Dont have to be staff to do that.
