* A hurricane prevented most of the partners from making it in on time (myself included.)

* We’re missing half our staff (we had a positive Covid case)

* We were one of maybe 2 stores that actually had power to operate.

* Our entire system crashed at 10 AM while the line was wrapped around the building twice.

* Told this to a customer and she got mad that I didn’t manually open the register, take her cash, & calculate her change myself

* Lobby had over 20 people the entire morning since everyone thinks that coming inside is gonna be faster than drive thru.

* Had no iced coffee (truck didn’t come cuz we had to close our store for two days to deep clean)

* We don’t have a store manager right (not b/c Covid but b/c fired.)

* Didn’t have most lids or cups

* No paper towels to dry hands.

Why does Starbucks demand we keep stores open under these conditions? Why does Starbucks care so little about their partners? This job is so frustrating for such little pay. It takes a toll mentally and spiritually, it would just nice to be treated like we matter.

i need a job so badly right now, and it is pretty much the only reason that i stay at my starbucks. its so frustrating working for a company that actually does not care about their employees.

I think the thing is, it's not even just not caring about partners!!!

Think how frustrating it must be as a customer to come in and see 1. partners working under these conditions and 2. that everything you want to order can't be ordered, when you would've driven elsewhere if that store was just, you know, closed. A waste of time, really.

Starbucks only cares about profits; they don't care if customers or partners suffer the consequences of a store being open under such horrid conditions.

Fuck, today was pretty cold and I had at least ten different customers double checking if we had coats/had a heater inside/weren't cold during this weather (it was pretty toasty inside so most of us didn't have jackets on). Customers and partners care more about each other than corporate ever will about either group :/

I’m fairly sure we could be out of everything to make drinks, and Starbucks would still keep us open in case someone wanted a water

Can confirm. My store recently went through a month long boil water advisory so our menu was cut down to like 6 items and we didn’t even have ice but we were still open.

Yup, I was opening one morning and found the front window smashed open with blood everywhere. There was a trail of blood out into the parking where we found the person it belonged to, moaning and bleeding. After I called my SM and 911, our DM made me and my opening partners stay at work to hand out free drip next to the drive thru menu to apologize to our customers for not being open.

Omg?? Can you share why the person smashed the front window???

A homeless man wanted to get inside, not sure why, any number of reasons probably. He cut himself on the broken glass getting inside the store but never touched anything inside beside the furniture. We started locking up the patio furniture after that.

This is literally true! At my bf's store a few years ago, both espresso machines broke and stopped working on Christmas day and they were forced to stay open.
denahom-chikn 5 points 2y ago
maybe they’ll just get some food and be fine
julieCivil 3 points 2y ago
Yep, had to make espresso drinks standing in raw sewage a few weeks ago when our drains backed up. GOOD TIMES.

We've had days when our situation was really bad too (although not this bad) and I wondered at what point can we just no longer function under certain conditions? But I guess that's not a concept that corporate has considered
kmoonster 8 points 2y ago
You're close enough to a hurricane to be late for work because of weather and all people can do is wrap the building twice to wait in line for some coffee with their sugar? Not, you know, hunker down in a storm shelter or a school or at home or something?

Hello?

I keep hearing stores like this from around the GNO area. It’s so stupidly frustrating, I’m even thinking about just transferring to a store that seems to be running well because mine is certainly not. I feel your pain! If you need to vent about the local issues feel free to PM me this shit sucks
