How Starbucks thinks we will respond to the “pay raise” of $1. I do the job of 3 people. 🙄(i.redd.it)

i’ll accept anything at this point, i hate being a minimum wage employee 😔
like i’m not gonna throw a party over this if it’s true but given that the only raise u could get at my old job without becoming a manager was $0.50 to become a trainer, this is nice.
hopelovepeace3316 points2y ago
Shit mine at chick-fil-a was like a $0.10 raise without being a manager but this was back in 2013.
jacobmittens3 points2y ago
I’ve always said that I’d be happy with even a dollar above minimum because it means I couldn’t just walk across the street to Subway and work far less for the same amount of money.
SensibleCardigan65 points2y ago
Starbucks is the only place I've ever worked where I feel like I'm punished for being good at my job.
jams101564 points2y ago
It's the worst job I've ever loved, and the best job I've ever hated, too.
Starbucks is a ~~third~~ weird place.
DreadandButter26 points2y ago
I've never had to work as hard for as little pay
SensibleCardigan6 points2y ago
I'm a rehire, left during covid shut downs and then came back. I am now doing at least 3 peoples jobs, training w/o trainer pay, and losing the will to live.
xiew4 points2y ago
There is no trainer pay but you get a 75$ (pretax) bonus for every person you train
dodofishman2 points2y ago
Keep in mind the trainee has to stay 3 months as well
jennyparks072 points2y ago
This comment hits deep... it’s so true.
jchopge44 points2y ago
Is this news that will be told on Monday? Everyone is getting a raise?
cs_phoenix22 points2y ago
Where can I read more about this?
brawny_man5x514 points2y ago
10% raise
cs_phoenix8 points2y ago
Where did you hear this?
brawny_man5x518 points2y ago
My store manager. Said “10%, at least 10% raise for everyone.” Dec 31st.
cs_phoenix49 points2y ago
Oh SHIT I know this post is complaining about this raise but honestly people it’s *more* money! We deserve more absolutely but we should be a little happy imo.
juliaandy9940 points2y ago
Are we really getting a raise cuz that is news to me
Ji_sora6 points2y ago
same lol
lemonjuicepulp27 points2y ago
Lol if this is what my manager was telling me about all excitedly then that’s fucking pathetic.
hautsause18 points2y ago
You’re allowed to think aspects of your job are pathetic even though other people lost their jobs this year. We don’t stop having a shitty time just because other people have a shittier one.

you’re allowed to complain about whatever you want on social media whether people go out of their way to police you or not
StormTheParade8 points2y ago
nah find another subreddit with that shitty attitude

you can criticize a multi million dollar company for their pathetic $1 raise and sympathize with people who were laid off and the shitty govt did nothing about keeping people safe and housed. You want us to grovel or what?
lemonjuicepulp7 points2y ago
Yeah idk. Obviously 1 dollar raise is good, but considering how BUSY a lot of stores have been, since we’ve been open while an infections disease is lingering around, and opening the day after a hurricane, it just really doesn’t amount to the effort that all the baristas put in. My heart goes out to everyone who’s been laid off because of these situations, but I’m still bitter as shit.
DreadandButter12 points2y ago
bro this is exactly the mentality that capitalists have programmed you to have. "Be grateful". Grateful for what? That we're selling hours off of our lives for a pittance? Yeah, it fucking blows that people are unemployed right now. But the suffering they're experiencing is also a result of capitalism.
Don't simp for corporations because they will not simp for you.
lemonjuicepulp8 points2y ago
Me and my homies would never simp for a company
DreadandButter8 points2y ago
bros before multinational eco-fascistic hoes
lemonjuicepulp5 points2y ago
I feel that, but uhh yeah. That’s just how I feel. I mean literally anything you can complain about, there’s always gonna people who have it worse or better than you. It just be like that.

I understand some of you have had it really rough in the pandemic but they could not be giving us this raise. I’m pretty stoked about this tbh.
peachiez_14 points2y ago
i’m stoked too, i just feel like maybe for other people, it’s a slap in the face? like yeah, it’s a min wage entry job but a lot of baristas are younger, living on their own, and maybe in school or juggling other things that this $1 raise is still ridiculously low. and while, yeah, they could just not give us the raise, idk how much it could help a lot of us.
granted, i’m a college student still living with my parents, so this raise and being able to pay off my car? yeah i’m stoked. for a lot of others, it’s still barely enough to scrape by. but yes, at the very least they are giving us a raise, which is a start :)
Kitten_Monger1276 points2y ago
Sure it's technically entry level. But someone has to make coffee for people. That someone should be paid well. If no one was there to make coffee for people, people would be pissed.
Philostic3 points2y ago
Coffee is not essential. No matter how much the corporate types and "dont talk to me until I've had my coffee" soccer moms might say otherwise, it is a luxury item produced off international slave labor.
These people could just as easily get a french press or cheap espresso bar at home and make it themselves.
The raise is nice, sure, but it's a bandaid over a bullet wound. People have gotten sick because of this job. People may have died for this job. What do they provide in turn? What have they done to show that they truly care about their baristas?
Kitten_Monger1271 points2y ago
Exactly!!! Thank you for putting this very eleqently. Baristas aren't essential. And trust me, buying locally roasted beans and making your own tastes way better than Starbucks' burned beans
peachiez_3 points2y ago
?? my argument wasn’t against us getting the raise lol :’) everyone deserves to be living without scraping by regardless what job you work and regardless if it’s entry level or not. i should’ve worded that better in my original comment
Kitten_Monger1275 points2y ago
Oh no I know 😊. I was just pointing it out because we have a culture that says entry level means low paying
LZARDKING6 points2y ago
Well I started Starbucks ten years ago at $8 ph with no sick time..no vacation time...no stock...no free college...and no free food on my day off. I’m not complaining for sure.
peachiez_6 points2y ago
oh no i understand, benefits are definitely a lot better, i just am trying to see where everyone’s coming from, since i’m in a position of relative privilege where i don’t have to worry about scraping by
KittyTittyCommitee2 points2y ago

They could help us a lot. Do some research on sbux finances. In fact, they're doing wonderfully financially when compared to what their predictions and projections claimed they would this year.
Most of my partners have families.
KittyTittyCommitee1 points2y ago
They could also be doing a lot more.
peachiez_10 points2y ago
ah yes, a raise that’ll allow me to pay my car payment and...
that’s it. that’s all i could pay
draahstopter8 points2y ago
Come on guys. There are so many negative attitudes toward this. A 10% raise is better than nothing. We could get nothing. I’m so glad I don’t work with some of you. Starbucks could be laying people off but instead they’re giving us raises. I understand and agree that it could be better but so many partners are treating this like it’s a huge slap in the face. You could be unemployed. Goodness...
YeetOnEm17387 points2y ago
Man everyone in this thread has never worked for anywhere else minimum wage lmao. This is the standard for every minimum wage job you're lucky you even get a dollar. Starbucks doesn't HAVE to give raises. For everyone complaining that this place treats you like shit, try Dairy Queen. Try the movie theater. Try Jamba Juice. Holy shit people you work minimum wage, if you value your work and work ethic so much that a 10% raise still isn't enough for you, by all means, go back to the jobs that paid you better.

Dude. If you don't like it, quit. You won't find benefits like this job has at any other minimum wage job.

Tastes pretty good having full health care, a degree getting done, working 40 hours and paying my rent and car payment?

LZARDKING1 points2y ago

cs_phoenix7 points2y ago
Are we getting a raise or smt?
eat-reddit-tv6 points2y ago
I’m not letting myself get my hopes up :(
cs_phoenix6 points2y ago
Yeah same. Even though people are “confirming” it in this thread, I’ll believe it when I see it.
_dreamsofthedead_6 points2y ago
Honestly this raise will help me pay my bills so I'm not complaining. I mean yeah, if minimum wage had been adjusted to inflation and worker productivity since it was first put into place, it would be around $21, but we can't really do anything about that. So I'm just happy that if I get this raise I'll be making $10 an hour and might be able to afford groceries lmao
craftyAnne61 points2y ago
Where do you live?
GymLeaderFlame4 points2y ago
I left Starbucks about 5 months ago but you know what’s shit? Making less than $2 more to be a shift vs a barista, I was a shift making $11.15 an hour in FL
star_pants4 points2y ago
Meanwhile the chain smoothie place next to us pay a dollar more starting, is overstaffed, and has all the recipes written on the counter
_dreamsofthedead_4 points2y ago
Wait we're getting a raise?
impasse6023 points2y ago
Is this for everyone or just a few stores??
rusting_oceans3 points2y ago
Are we actually getting a raise?? Because if so, that means I’ll finally be making $10 an hour and I will be over the fucking moon
Nevin_163 points2y ago
The largest mass raise in Starbucks history is 13% so hopefully it's atleast that. My manager wouldn't tell me he said find out the info on Reddit or wait until it's announced Monday. So this is a good place to start. Thanks for sharing
blueteas3 points2y ago
WAIT did ur managers tell u or when are they telling everyone bc i'm scared to get my hopes up
sarahcook88003 points2y ago
i just texted my manager. i live in a higher living expense area, and the partners in my district have been screaming for at least the same as the next district over, where their living expenses are much lower and they get paid $3 more than my district, so this raise would let me move out. i don’t want to get my hopes up but i really really want this to be a thing.
hopelovepeace333 points2y ago
I mean I’m definitely not going to throw a party over this but it’s better than them giving us a few cents more at the end of every year. We deserve far more especially those who worked the entire time at the beginning & didn’t take the paid leave when all the stores were shutting down, but it’s a take what you get kind of thing with Starbucks 🤷🏻♀️
julianalu_3 points2y ago
Wait is this in the states only or Canada too?
jungkookie_132 points2y ago
Someone said it’s only for people who have been with the company over 3 years. I wonder if that’s true
BeardiesRule1122 points2y ago
A dollar ain’t no raise. It’s a plateau.

So I live in Arkansas and we voted to have our minimum wage raise every year until we reach 12 dollars an hour. Would I get another raise??? This coming January is when our minimum wage should raise to 11 an hour. Would that mean 12 for me? Or nah?
