need advice ASAP (self.starbucksbaristas)

so long story short, my dad just told me that my uncle tested positive for covid this morning, and i had just seen him on wednesday. i feel completely fine currently, just anxiety about the whole situation. for some context, i’m currently a minor working for starbucks. i haven’t told my mom yet (going to soon) and she is still in remission from cancer which makes her high risk. i texted my sm and told her the situation, and she said that it would be okay for me to come in as long as i’m feeling fine and since i don’t have constant contact with him because he lives in another state and just came here for a few hours. when i tell my mom, i’m almost positive she is going to make me quarantine for the 14 days and not see anyone or go to work. how do i go about this situation with my sm if she doesn’t let me work? could i get fired if i don’t come in even though my mom won’t let me? will i have to find coverage myself? any advice or help would be great, thank you.

You should call the Partner Resource Center and confirm with them if you need to quarantine per Starbucks policy or not. If PRC says that you do, in fact, need to quarantine, then you will be allowed to do so.

*To my knowledge*, Starbucks is not currently allowing you to choose to quarantine at will, meaning that if Starbucks says that you aren’t required to quarantine, your mom won’t be able to force Starbucks to let you. Unfortunately, living with someone who is high-risk is not considered a “good enough” reason to require isolation. If your mom won’t let you work when your manager, within policy, expects you to, then you have to choose between defying your mom and potentially losing your job.

Your top priorities should be contact PRC and getting a COVID test for your own peace of mind.

I'd suggest going in for a covid test asap to see if you may be positive but not showing symptoms yet
