Rehired at the BUSIEST store EVER (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by yeckels
You guys. Help. I was rehired after a long 10 year break at a drive thru store that happens to be the busiest on this side of the state I’m in. I’ve been working a month and haven’t yet been able to get on bar because during my shifts everyone is so insanely busy (I’m talking literally RUNNING) that they just can’t give me a chance on bar to familiarize myself with everything because they are moving so fucking fast. And we typically have a MIN of 7 person plays, but mostly have 8-10 people on. It’s harder with more than that because our store is so narrow. Our peaks are 4-5 hours long. We MIGHT get a 10 min lull (never empty, just slowER) between shift changes, but my entire shifts are peaks. I get off work and I can barely walk because my feet ache so bad and my lower back is killing me.
I’m thinking it may be easier to just transfer to a slower store if I ever want to enjoy work and get on bar again? They keep throwing me on drive thru, cafe register, or mobile and I’m fucking over it. I feel like a slave, not a barista. I looked up our store on Yelp and we have the worst fucking reviews because our in cafe wait times are up to 20-30 min for a single drink. I’ve personally waited 25 min AFTER my shift ended for my iced black tea lemonade. Now I don’t even bother because I want to gtfo if there. Is this what Starbucks has turned into? Are they all this fucking crazy busy?? I need help deciding on if I should transfer or not.

I was re-hired at a store JUST like your current one. Eventually I transferred to a slower store and it was the best decision I ever made Starbucks-wise. I tell myself that get paid the same but I am not being drained to the core each and every day and that was worth the transfer.

I would transfer to another store. Sounds like this one is just not the right fit. I am at one of the slowest drive thru stores in my district and it is nice because it has one super busy peak for around an hour or two and then it is usually not that busy. That gives everyone time to develop in different positions.

This sounds like my store. I started at this store a year ago. I love it. It makes the day go by fast. (I don't get to bar either.)

Can you request to be scheduled outside of peak?

I will try that! Only problem is that I prefer opening over mid/closing shifts because of my personal engagements :/
