Cold foam on Hot drinks?? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by MommaX2Barista
So I’m into my 4th month as a new partner and I can’t get a straight answer from my shifts or SM. Wondering if y’all can help... Can we put cold foam (any kind) on hot drinks?

My store manager is all about the customer... no matter how bitchy or or horrible they are treating us, she is all about us putting the customer first and “sparking that moment of joy”. But I’ve helped out at other stores that say no because of the hot/cold combo creating bacteria. I guess similar to the idea behind not being able to pour a hot drink over ice because it curdles the steamed milk.

Anyways... I was just wondering if we can or not or if anyone can point me to something official? Thanks!

I don't know if there's an official policy, but we put cold whip cream on hot drinks so I don't see why not.

It’s 100% allowed, in fact Starbucks released an $1 last year in certain markets.

There’s no reason cold foam wouldn’t be allowed, but whipped cream and pouring cold milk into a hot drink would be. There’s literally no difference.

"If the til let's you, we're allowed"

Just like how it knows we can't do venti and trenta nitros.

It's gross, but if it's what they want, it's what they want. IDK if there's a policy in place cause cold foam is a relatively new thing for us.

its definitely something we *can* do, but not something i would recommend. if a customer really wants it, give it to them, but tell them we usually don’t put cold foam on hot drinks.

We just tell them that the foam is going to melt into it so they know what to expect, but thanks to TikTok they don't care and still want it. 🤷🏻‍♀️ okie dokie, pay your extra $1 for sweet cream foam to melt.

Everyone at my store says it’s against standard and that we can’t, so we usually just give them a tall cup with the foam on the side and let them add it themselves. I know at least one of the other stores in the district does it though.

You’re definitely allowed to 👍🏻
edit: you aren’t 4 months into being a new partner. You’re not new, you’re just a partner! And I suspect you’re doing great <3

Thank you! I think I am but some days I have my doubts lol!!

It’s hot milk over ice that creates bacteria not the reverse

So why are we still making iced cappuccinos?
nothappynotnew 3 points 2y ago
Because u make it with cold foam now?
starfishgobam 3 points 2y ago
I mean the foam would melt soon but yeah it’s possible. I mean, we do put hot foam on the iced americanos LOL so it’s whatever floats your boat.

Honestly, this is to the customer's discretion. We're not responsible for what they order. We're responsible for making what they order. So I would put it regardless if it's okay or not.

Thanks everyone!!

I’m one of those people who tells customers we’re not allowed. Idk if I’m right it’s just the stupidest thing ever. I also make the white mocha, extra caramel drizzle with sweet cream instead of 2% if the customer doesn’t say “foam” when they’re ordering.

Yeah maybe u need a new job

I just say it won’t work that well. If they insist then whatever but most of the time they seem to be just trying things out and will back down.
