A Grande in a Venti Cup Rant (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by Ashesremindme
So I looked at the Yelp reviews for our store last night, and I'm still thinking about one that made me so mad. Most of them are the typical "too slow" complaints, but one was just...

So this lady posts a picture of her iced latte, and is going off about how she always gets her coffee wrong at our store. She wants a latte, with half and half, but we always give her what looks like a cup of half and half with a splash of coffee. She "never has this problem at other stores." But...you ordered a venti iced latte. That's literally 3 shots of espresso, and fill to the line with your milk of choice, in this case, half and half. What she's really looking for is an iced coffee, a cold brew, or perhaps even an iced Americano with a splash of cream. But the AUDACITY of this woman to not even know what she's ordering and then to give us a one star review because we gave her what she asked for is just too much. I know this type of customer, too...they are the ones who want a cappuccino, and then have you remake it because they wanted no foam. And when you tell them that would be a latte, they get angry and insist they want a cappuccino.

I just don't get people.

As per last week's update, I'll just leave it here that these are my own opinions and do not reflect that of the Starbucks corporation. 😊

Oh man I had to remake a cappuccino for a lady last week because she complained that there was too much foam. We let her know that if she asks for a wet cappuccino in the future we’ll know to make it with less foam, and she told us that was ridiculous and that we should just learn to make it right. I really, really wish customers did a little bit of research on their own so they know what they’re ordering. Aaaaaaahhhhhh

(Edit for grammar)
Herry_Up 3 points 2y ago
A *wet* cappuccino. Lol just reminds me of the word moist.

Imagine someone asking for a moist cappuccino
Month_Puzzleheaded 3 points 2y ago
A lady asked me for a moist one today, the ssv that was next to me laughed so hard the lady had to ask what was so funny
obeehunter 58 points 2y ago
Like where else does this even happen except Starbucks??

"Excuse me, but I didn't want chicken with this."

"Miss . . . you ordered a chicken burger."

"Exactly! And it NEVER has chicken in it at any other place I order it! You guys just don't know what a chicken burger is!!!"

There was a lady who made a video of herself going through starbucks to get a “26 ounce” iced coffee as she said and proceeds to put the coffee into a measuring cup (after filtering the ice out), drive back through and complain that it was only 20 ounces of coffee. Made it out like she was uncovering some scam. Poor guy had to explain that it’s “iced” coffee so it comes with ice. Consumerism in America has bred some of the most disgusting, dumb, entitled people. Folks who never work a retail job will actually never understand how humans can act when slightly inconvenienced.

This reminded when I worked at a steakhouse we got a faxed order for our “Extra Cheesy Cheese Burger” ....without cheese... Wut?

I have a regular who comes in every Saturday and states what his drink is, and how much he hates it. Why does he keep ordering it? People are strange.
Ashesremindme [OP] 10 points 2y ago
Lol, what is the drink? I'm trying to think of a reason he'd keep ordering something he hates, and I've got nothing!
KittenCatAttack 2 points 2y ago
I've never been able to figure it out. He says it's a sweet iced coffee that has some milk in it...and doesn't know what it is. But it's never one of the things I've tried to make for him. We've spent over 20 mins talking to this guy each visit, making multiple drinks each time, and he still hates his coffee. I gave up

We have a women who orders a flat white breve light on the breve, no extra room. It drives me nuts
halfyellow 26 points 2y ago
the hell does that even mean lmao
Acceptable_Emu 23 points 2y ago
None of us knows and I don’t think she even knows what she wants
vkapadia 29 points 2y ago
She want say lot word, sound fancy.
Werespider 9 points 2y ago
So what does she want?
Acceptable_Emu 24 points 2y ago
We usually just make a normal breve flat white or we add some pike to it and she never complains so honestly I have no idea
JMarBrwn 6 points 2y ago
LOL sounds like something a parent would do to get their kid to eat healthier foods
hailvy 7 points 2y ago
We had someone order “a grande flat white with breve and some cream on top” today and I almost screamed
Acceptable_Emu 6 points 2y ago
That’s almost as bad as “light on the breve”
hailvy 4 points 2y ago
Almost. OP takes the cake
regbarista285 6 points 2y ago
...so how do you make it?
Acceptable_Emu 8 points 2y ago
We either make a normal breve flat white or we add some pike on top of the espresso depending on the day
foxyfit 21 points 2y ago
Lol 'add pike' has now become my favorite drink fixer. Frappacino too cold? Add pike.
Cappuccino too milky? Add pike.
Karen's complaining about the wait? Poor some pike on them.
Acceptable_Emu 15 points 2y ago
“Add pike” should be a modifier on the computer
Herry_Up 3 points 2y ago
I’ve been pikin myself with some Folgers every morning on my 2nd cup when I don’t wanna be bothered to refill it with more blonde roast from the fridge lol
matroid21 32 points 2y ago
Throwback to the guy I had who insisted he wanted a iced white mocha with less coffee then usual, no espresso because a white mocha isn’t espresso. Rang it in as a venti iced white mocha with two shots, and he starts yelling at me about how he doesn’t want espresso, he wants a white mocha. I can’t sometimes with these idiots. Learn what goes into your drink folks!
headyslabs 18 points 2y ago
So he wants white hot chocolate lmaoo
meandrandomcrap2000 8 points 2y ago
id ring that up as a cold milk with white mocha then lmaoo
matroid21 10 points 2y ago
He still wanted the caffeine though. I’m pretty sure the guy was high as a kite at the time, but he was still a huge dick about it.
lillyloveswriting 16 points 2y ago
Sometimes people order things because they sound fancy but don’t know what they’re actually ordering. Whenever they have a problem with a drink I was ask, “what type of taste were you hoping to acquire?”

But we always get this guy who orders a cold brew with sweet cream. He comes every single day and without a fail there is always something wrong with it. And currently we can’t take drinks back, so he makes a face and tells me to just get a small cup of sweet cream with 4 pumps of vanilla and toffee nut. I know he’s trying to cheat the system and not pay for that extra syrup but we get tired of him as soon as he’s in our line of sight lol so we just give it to him. Though next time I’m just going to ask if he wants it in his drink the first time so he can stop coming back every 5 minutes.
Ashesremindme [OP] 8 points 2y ago
Do it! I can't stand when people try to game the system for free stuff. I'll hand out free mistake drinks or training drinks all day long, but if I think for a second you're wasting my time on purpose to get a freebie I'll hold on to the "mistake" and give it to the next car.

If the person is nice or seems confused, I'll try to figure out what they really want too, but some people are just belligerent and insist they know what they want even when what they are ordering is clearly not what they are describing. Or worse, and this is a separate rant, those people who get mad when you try to clarify what they want. Like who gets mad that someone is trying to give them what they want??
babyybeean 16 points 2y ago
I had a lady order three cappuccinos with no foam. 😑. So i made her three lattes no foam and got zero complaints
jessstress 10 points 2y ago
One of the poor reviews at my store is a guy who ordered a hot chocolate with no mocha and complains it's only steamed milk 🙄
xalaskarose 8 points 2y ago
Omg the people who ask for an iced/hot americano with no water, extra milk. I’m like sorry but you obviously don’t want an americano then, you want a latte so I’m charging you for a latte! Lol!
brngh11 6 points 2y ago
I don’t know about you guys but i just started getting petty with customers like this. I literally just hand them the recipe cards that we have and say nothing as they read it.

We have a regular that orders a short espresso machiatto and gets upset that its just espresso with foam, and forces us to literally just make a short latte. I started charging him for a short latte and he was FURIOUS every time. I explained to him, as well as my co-workers, multiple times that that is what he’s ordering. So one day i just handed him the recipe card and he went silent. Now he orders a short latte 🤷🏼‍♀️

I really really can’t stand customers like this.
M_Night_Sammich 1 points 2y ago
I wish I had the balls to do this. I just don’t want to get yelled at :/
LordDanOfTheNoobs 4 points 2y ago
I had someone who would come in every day ask for a dry cappuccino with whip cream... The whipped cream would pop all the foam and he could come back saying that the cup was half empty and we should make him a new one.
I_love_you_drugs 4 points 2y ago
I get a woman who orders a venti iced matcha breve with 8 scoops and says, every time, “that’s eight scoops of matcha?” Like we made it wrong. Maybe just accept that’s how your drink looks!!!
drinkliquidclocks 4 points 2y ago
Oh MAN, sometimes I read my store reviews just to piss myself off. Goddammit I hate customer service jobs lol...
hayysh01 3 points 2y ago
a review from my store complained bc they spilled their coffee in their car .....lmao
bedpan_3 2 points 2y ago
Those customers are the kinds of people who go to a gas station and get a latte from the machine. They don’t understand the importance of drink quality.
Kitten_Monger127 2 points 2y ago
Wait, what update last week?
Ashesremindme [OP] 2 points 2y ago
The weekly update. We have to read it and sign off every week. There was something about posting on social media and how we're supposed to not talk shit or whatever, and if we say anything we're supposed to say it's our opinions, not Starbucks'.
Kitten_Monger127 3 points 2y ago
Lmao fuck that. This is the only place I can anonymously rant about work.
SensibleCardigan 2 points 2y ago
We had someone ask us to make the iced coffee lighter.. without milk or water.. I'm still baffled.
