Maybe you have the same name of someone that orders hot chocolate?

And, you are a Karen. No one needs to accuse you of it, because it’s quite obvious from your post.

Ok first of all, I’ve never heard of anyone making the wrong drink on purpose. Some teenager making minimum wage isn’t making you a hot chocolate because they think it’s funny and that you’re stupid... if this is happening, it’s because the barista is not a good barista.

Starbucks has a big complicated beverage menu and they try hard to train people, but unfortunately it gets messy sometimes (even messier if the barista doesn’t care). Not to mention that the “salted caramel mocha” is a seasonal recipe so some people may not know it as well. This still isn’t an excuse. They shouldn’t be messing it up that much.

Thinking back on when I started last year... a grande mocha gets 4 big pumps of mocha. A grande salted caramel mocha gets 4 big pumps of mocha and 4 big pumps of toffee nut. It was honestly shocking to me to learn that because half of the cup is full of syrup and there is almost no room for milk. It seems wrong and way overpowering. Alas, this is the recipe. Maybe some people think that it’s something like 4 pumps of mocha and 2 of toffee nut or something, just like I did last year.

We don’t mess up drinks on purpose and snicker about it in the back lol. If they make the drink noticeably wrong, it’s ok to ask for it remade. You’re paying $6+ dollars for one drink, don’t feel bad about wanting the correct drink. I’m sorry they keep messing it up, this may be something to bring up to a manager if it happens consistently at one store.

Edit: And don’t come here and call us assholes lol

Thank you. This is the most helpful reply. And I don’t mean to call all Starbucks employees assholes. Only the ones who have been duping me with hot chocolate

Ok again though, it’s not intentional lol

Have you tried taking the drink back and politely asking for your correct drink? It’s quite possible that the wrong drink has just been handed to you. Or if it’s continuing to happen at multiple locations always resulting in you getting a hot chocolate maybe it’s in the way you’ve ordered it? Try mobile ordering so there’s no miscommunication. Or maybe you’ve been a jerk to places multiple times so they “forget” to put in the shot. You say you’re always polite, but this post would suggest that you’re likely someone to be yelling for baristas to get the manager since you seem to think it’s a personal vendetta against you or that all baristas like to randomly hand out hot chocolates to people who didn’t order them.

All I’m trying to say is there are a number of reasons why you may end up with the wrong drink. You come on to this page for Starbucks baristas and start saying you think baristas are constantly handing out hot chocolates to people because we think people are dumb and won’t know the difference is definitely not polite and not helpful in helping any of us to actually help you figure out what the real problem is. You think people are going to snot in your drink if you bring it back, but yet you think the baristas are purposely making you the incorrect drink, so maybe you should just stick to making your own drinks? No one actually NEEDS coffee. I feel so bad anytime I hand out the wrong drink (I typically work the drive thru while it sounds like you’re ordering inside) but like another poster said, maybe it’s someone with the same name or similar sounding name? Even if today you were the only person in the store, it doesn’t mean that there wasn’t a mobile or delivery order being worked on that could have been switched with yours on accident.

I get that you’re upset, it’s understandable but you come on here ranting about needing to kiss baristas asscrack to get a drink made right and calling the barista an asshole, when it’s honestly way more likely that it’s a mistake, whether the wrong drink is being given or a misunderstanding hearing the drink or just someone not knowing how to make the drink. You say it’s happened at multiple locations, I really doubt that people at 4 different locations chose to hand out the wrong drink that happens to be the same wrong drink every time. I honestly would much rather a customer come back and say they got the wrong drink rather than having someone go online and talk shit about me, even though I wouldn’t know they were doing it. I would really suggest contacting the store and also try mobile ordering, that way your name will be on the drink so you can ensure that they are at least handing you the drink with the label you ordered, if it’s still wrong, then definitely get it remade (we’re all wearing masks, no one is going to spit in your drink) and see if maybe the store(s) in your area just needed some more training on the drink you are ordering.

FYI caramel doesn’t actually go in the drink, it only gets caramel drizzle on the top. Have you opened up the wrong drink and looked at it. A salted caramel mocha should have whipped cream, caramel drizzle, and salt on the top. A hot chocolate would have whipped cream and mocha drizzle. That could give you an indication of if they’re actually handing you the wrong drink or if it just tastes off or something isn’t being made right in the actual drink.

I’m pretty sure you just don’t understand what a drink tastes like...it’s okay a lot of people order drinks and think they are getting one thing and then another. The mocha has never and does not taste like powdered hot chocolate...former barista here.

Also the idea baristas like secretly are doing this to you on purpose is a joke, unless you are as nasty in person as you are in your comments. No barista cares that much about you I promise.

Ok, so i would definitely let the store know, even if you think you’re being rude or a “Karen” it could very easily be that the barista(s) at that location are not properly trained. Is there/was there a sticker on your drink? Or the side of the cup written on? With hot drinks once the lid goes on and the sleeve goes on it just takes one wrong look at the cup/forgetting to check before the wrong drink gets handed out. I don’t remember the exact way it happened but I had a customer come through drive thru and ask for a drink which they ended up coming back for because i believe it was made wrong, but they asked for a different drink. When they got to the window I was so concerned about finding out what was wrong with the first drink to know what to tell the baristas that I accidentally gave the barista at the window who was in training, the wrong drink again. I felt awful but once the customer leaves I have no way of summoning them back to let them know I’m human and made a mistake.

I am so genuinely confused by this post. I have no idea how this could happen to the same person multiple times. We need more details to make sense of it 😂
