How do tips work?? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by DramaMamma25
Hi! I have worked here about a month and can’t seem to get a straight answer about tips. I have been told about “tip Wednesday” at my store and that’s when baristas get their tips.. but I have never been given any bag of tips with my name on it? I am just a little confused as to how this works because I have worked about 4 days a week for 4-5 weeks now, and haven’t received any of the tips I’ve earned. Plus, I know that a few times while working drive thru or front register, I have received some pretty decently sized tips - so I feel like I am just waiting for them to come in.

TLDR: How do Starbucks tips work for Baristas? How often do we get them and how is it split?

UPDATE: THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH! I collected my tips for the first time yesterday and it was a pretty nice collection of cash that I wasn’t entirely expecting! 😳💗

You gotta ask for them, they generally don’t get handed to you because they are locked in the safe

Tips get calculated on Tuesday weekly after the payroll is finalized on Mondays. A report is printed with all barista and shifts tippable hours on it. All
Previous weeks tips get divided among everyone who is on the report by hours worked. You get tips from any store you work in as well, it’s your responsibility to go and pick them up.

You get them once a week. All tips are pooled and you’re given a percentage based on the amount of hours you worked that week. Typically you have to ask for your tips because they’re kept in the safe or another secure location, no one really walks around handing them out. Ask your shift supervisor or manager the next time you’re at work.

Tips are pooled then distributed weekly based on your hours worked multiplied by a rate calculated by dividing the tip amount by total hours worked. Usually tips are kept in the safe in a little accordion folder (atleast in the 5 stores I worked at). At the end of your shift just asked the ssv or manager if you can grab them from the safe. You take your money, sign that you took it. Usually the ssv watched to make sure no tips were stolen.
