Tell me some good things (self.starbucksbaristas)

I just started at SB this week (after being laid off from my full time position last month). I’ve been stalking this sub and while it’s been hilarious, it’s also pretty disheartening to read.

What are some of your favorite parts of this job/company?

My coworkers. There are a couple I dont like, but most of them I'd be willing to bust my ass for, I've genuinely made some really good friends here

My regulars as well. Some of them are so sweet, and if I left I would genuinely miss them

I love many of my coworkers. There is a great sense of bonding that happens when you survive rough days together. I'm notably older than most of them, and I get a great sense of satisfaction from being a sort of mentor about lots of things for them, both Starbucks and other.

Many days aren't actually rough at all. We forget about them, and we don't vent about them, but there are plenty decent ones.

We talk about the bad customers, but we have so many lovely regulars at my store who make our days better. One guy tips $5 a day on his $3.17 hot chocolate. Except for sometimes he tips way more instead, or buys a $5 gift card for each customer in the store with him at the time. Or when I got a new car, I mentioned it to one of our lovely older women who was there by herself at the time. A couple days later her brother-in-law, another regular, came in alone and congratulated me on it and asked how I was liking it. They had discussed my bit of happy news amongst themselves each other's houses!

And also the sound of the ice breaking when I beat it apart with the ice scoop. That's a really satisfying sound. Even on the bad days I can beat the hell out of the ice and enjoy myself for a moment.

i’ve only been working at starbucks for a month. i work in a kiosk in a grocery store so i don’t get the same benefits, but i can say that the company does really care about the employees. we have been selling a few thousands dollars worth of drinks more than usual each week so they sent us gift cards which was nice (even tho i don’t really need a $5 card for starbucks lol but it was nice to be acknowledged). This sub is just primarily people complaining about their job like anyone else would with any other job, so don’t let it discourage you. there are a lot of annoying things you have to deal with in this job, but it really is honestly a very fun job!!!
