I just started at SB this week (only place that’s hired me after being laid off from a full time office position a month ago). I’ve been stalking this sub and while it’s hilarious, some of it’s pretty disheartening to read.
What are some of your favorite parts of this job/company?
(TIA)

The coworkers that are supportive and the customers that you can tell really appreciate what you’re doing! The free drinks are bomb and food mark out each shift. I also love working drive through and seeing all the people going about their day, and seeing the drive through pups!!

Definitely being able to teach people and watch them grow! I also like the free drinks haha

as hard as it is to believe, i love working on holidays. especially in the winter. there’s something about going in when it’s chilly, getting to make the pretty fall drinks and joke around with my coworkers and make people smile. i’ve worked for sbux for two and a half years and holidays are my absolute favorite. it’s hard, it’s busy, it’s chaotic sometimes, but i love it still. plus, it’s almost red apron time and that makes me smile.

i actually signed up to work every holiday this winter simply because i love it so much lol. i hope that you find it as fun for you! the important thing is taking joy in the little things and not letting the business & stress get to you

I work with awesome partners (for the most part) and I love my SM as well. Remember that everyone makes mistakes, even people who have been there for years, and it’s okay that there’s a learning curve.

I'll tell you a funny story: Someone the other day, Monday, came through the drive thru. Very, very hesitantly, she was ordering, "A tall... I guess, passion tango iced tea, unsweet...." then paused and went, "You know what? Screw it!! I want a venti- you know that secret menu drink?-cotton candy frappuccino!" She was a hoot and in such a good mood, and absolutely made my day! It had been a crazy busy and understaffed day and her cheery attitude at the end of my shift put me in better spirits!
Also. Honestly? The free drinks are great. I LOVE opening or closing shifts when it's real slow and not much business, and you can just chill and idly clean, occasionally make drinks to try out new things, talk with your coworkers. It's great. Last week we had a pause during morning peak and my manager used the limited free time to make me a drink to try :')

that’s so sweet! i had my first day on election day and apparently they were missing someone and we got slammed so i never got to experience a slow period. hope to tomorrow!

DO use your markouts! They exist for a reason. Customers will ask you for recommendations and Starbucks wants you to be able to give great recs! You get free drinks/food/beans and Starbucks gets more satisfied customers: it's a win-win.
