Gonna have a PDP with my manager tomorrow, need some tips (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by BoyItalian
I’ve worked at Starbucks for over two years now and am extremely comfortable at my store, and have been sort of wanting to become a barista trainer/shift for some time now, but recently have wanted to become one more-so. I had been holding back on talking about it to my manager because there were a few partners at my store that I felt really deserved being promoted, and now that they have, I feel like it’s finally appropriate to put my foot in the door. Any tips on how I should approach this conversation, so that I have more of a likely chance in becoming a trainer/shift? Of course I have a general idea since I know my manager pretty well, but I wanted to see if there was some input from other fellow partners who have had PDPs related to this as well. Thanks!

To become a trainer an SM wants to see that you've mastered your role as barista, and that you're comfortable and effective at giving feedback to your peers. So be prepared to talk about how you're having a positive impact on the store and helping to make the partners you work with better at their job. If you can get a copy of the field guide that can help.

This is very exciting! I would say maybe write out a partner development plan, as well as look at the ops excellence field guide. Look thru the barista approach pages and see where you feel like your at. Are you Learning? Owning? Or advising? As well as think of examples on the different questions. Good luck!

Those are great points, I’ll brush up on the LOA steps beforehand, thank you!
