Mask Policy (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by philosopher_cat_lady
So today is the first Saturday of holiday season and we had many customers come inside without masks on, causing us to stop what we're doing, address the customer, and if they don't have a mask, wash our hands, put on food service gloves, and hand them a mask. We're operating as grab-and-go, and the customers would place their order and wait in the café and take their masks off. It got to the point where we locked our front door. Starbucks is silly to think that, one, people read signs, two, people like following rules and wearing masks, and, three, that we have time to be security guards along with all the other tasks we have to do. We're on schedule to open our café on the 16th, so it's only going to get worse from here.

Also, the policy applies to all people age 2 and over yet we're not provided with child's size masks.

Maybe, with the change of administration, a change of normal will also occur. If EVERYONE is mandated from a federal level, there won’t be any arguing about it.

I'm worried that you are going to have some crazy ppl riot over the fact that they have to wear a mask.

We already had a man tell a shift supervisor to go fuck herself and flipped her off.

It’s ridiculous that they allow cafes to be open nowadays. Mine has been open for a couple months now I think and it’s just so retarded. It doesn’t even increase sales?? It only puts partners and other customers at more risk! AND we (at least at my store, I haven’t seen any concrete policy about this) don’t/aren’t allowed to tell people to keep their mask on when they aren’t taking a sip/bite. It just defeats part of the reason masks are required. Jfc

It possibly could increase sales, as people would rather go to Starbucks if they can have a seat inside if the weather isn't to their liking and eat their breakfast rather than have to eat it at home, but I would think it would only be a negligible amount, not to mention not worth the risk to employees' and customers' health. Right, our store manager told us that the policy is that if a customer is seated, they don't have to have a mask on. I haven't done any research into it though. The policy has no time limit on customers' seating--they could sit at a table for five hours with no mask on and not be breaking our policy. I totally agree, that completely defeats the purpose of mask-wearing in the first place--to prevent people's germs from entering the air. If they're sitting at a table and have the coronavirus and breathe it out or sneeze it out, it doesn't matter that they did it at a table more than six feet away from us. It'll travel through our air conditioning system and spread throughout the store. Starbucks also should have never opened its restrooms since toilets spread the virus into the air and who knows what gross things people do in the restrooms. And when they were closed, people would use ours even though they saw a table blocking the hallway to them and signs saying not to. Because people refuse to follow our safety rules, we shouldn't have our store open to walk-in customers.

Exactly. Well put and written. I read an article recently that’s really well written and has great graphics you might be interested in. It talks about aerosols and covid transmission. Extremely interesting and particularly applicable to us. $1 it is!

Not to worry. President Trump has made it clear that covid IS a hoax. TRUST your President. He would NEVER lie.
