Family vacation plans before starting new job(self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by Papa-mollyy
Hello! So I just started working at Starbucks in September and I’ve had plans to visit London over winter break to see my girlfriends family (btw I’m a sophomore in college and we are not allowed to stay on campus over winter break unless we have a winter class so I’d have to leave town during that time anyway and there isn’t a starbucks in my hometown) the trip is about 3 1/2 weeks and even though I mentioned it to my SM during our interview and during my first couple days on the job and she told me I’d be fine to go I’m still worried because I also recently had to go on a medical leave of absence for having my gallbladder out (I was gone for a bout 2 weeks). Should I be worried about my job or possibly not getting time off for this trip?

At this point you more than likely won’t get time off for the trip but that all depends on how badly your SM would need you. Plus thinking of the time frame it would be longer than 3 1/2 weeks as you’d visit and then have to quarantine for two weeks (if it’s an out of the country trip at least) before you could go back to work, at that point they’d probably let you go or put your on LOA without pay as you’ve only been around barely on/or at your two month mark and from now until January is the time where business is very hectic.

Hey guys so I literally just tested my manager 15 minutes ago about getting time off for my trip to London and she told me I need to apply for a personal leave of absence as soon as possible and have it done by the end of the week. The problem is I get my wisdom teeth out tomorrow morning and so I’m trying to do it online but it’s not letting me, it’s either telling me I need to talk to my HR rep (I don’t have one) or when I do it on the my Sedqwick page it says my return to work date should be at least two days after my last day worked. So now I’m worried I’ll have to call again which really wouldn’t be a big deal but I’m getting my wisdom teeth out tomorrow morning so unless they’re open to answer at 7am I can’t call then, and I’m sure they won’t answer thanksgiving and I’m worried Black Friday and Saturday won’t work either. If you guys know how I’m supposed to apply for this please let me know or if you think I’ll be able to wait until Monday to get the claim in. (Btw the leave would be from December 21 to January 20)

Okay I just talked to her today and she said I should be totally fine but I will keep this updated throughout the process :))

Okay good! I was concerned because I know you’ve only been with starbucks for a short amount of time. Yes, please keep us updated!

I wouldn’t be there anyway though because I’d be kicked off of campus during that time and I can’t stay anywhere in town which my manager already knows because it’s a college town and I’m not the only college student. Also where I’m from is a covid hot spot so I’m not sure she’d even want me to transfer

I believe in the US you can even go to another state and have to quarantined.

We get mandatory testing through school upon arriving back at campus which would be about a week and a half after id be getting back from the trip, do you think they’d still make me quarantine?

Hmmm I say talk to your SM about that and mention the testing.
