tall rant: dto shouldn’t be expected to do everything and i’m tired of it(self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by denahom-chikn
i was on dto during a rush today (with a migraine too) and while taking back to back orders and writing cups and ringing them in, bar was getting an attitude with me for not helping with drinks. we had enough people to have had a bar back up person, but they were still expecting me to help make drinks while also trying to do dto stuff and trying to explain a mistake i made to my dtr person. obviously i don’t mind helping g o. bar while i’m on drive if i can, but when i’m clearly super busy, don’t get an attitude with me for not doing your job too

My favorite is DTO and food where our ovens are located on the opposite end of the building. So I'm trying to take orders whilst running back and forth dodging the bar, support and register partners who are also frantically running around. Parkour!

ya dto isn't supposed to make drinks but getting food is really difficult sometimes

DTO is a super stressful position. Trying to shake drinks do fraps while taking orders constantly is a lot of multi tasking and slows you down. I would never expect DTO to make my drinks for me. I definitely appreciate their help when they do but especially when it comes to fraps I don’t expect them to do besides what’s obligated of them. Idk about other people but I get super overwhelmed on DTO and I wouldn’t want to add to that pressure.

You have to write cups? Where are you located? If you're doing DTO and bar support, that's two positions, not one.

Being the regular dto/stores punching bag when things aren’t going right is exactly why I’m thinking of quitting

The worst is when it’s super busy while you’re on DTO and your shift says “come and pick up food” because he’s too lazy to walk it over to me. I would know, it happened the other day. Pisses me off so much.

Comments like this help me as a SSV to better support my team- unfortunately some baristas and SSVs alike feel the need to take everything on themselves. Thank you for speaking up, I will definitely consider this during the crazy holiday season!

Yup. Was doing back to back orders the other day and got quickly yelled at after a food order for not doing food at the same time. Like chill, I’m tryna get these through
