Discrimination? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by leekyabloh
I’ve been with Starbucks for around 9 months now and this is my first real job, I’m only 17 and I haven’t really had a good experience since being hired back when COVID started. My co-workers/supervisors don’t really allow me on bar since I told them I had mild anxiety, but can control it. For the last 3 months, I’ve been told I can’t do certain things due to my anxiety. I want to know if this is legal or not? I’ve went to my managers and DM and they have told me that they’ll try to get me more time but nothing has changed. I’ve reached out to PRC but I haven’t gotten anything back. I’ve been looking into transferring and have gotten in contact with a store manager and have a plan to transfer in January but I feel like my management team is trying to seperate me due to me being a “problem barista” for raising my concerns with PRC, I don’t think I’ll make it.

Please give me some advice!

My first question would be if you’ve had instances where your anxiety on bar has gotten the better of you and has been an issue. You say you can control it, but have you ever lost control?

Update: I quit.

Absolute respect.

Good for you.

It was impulsive, but I’ve contacted PRC to retract my resignation (I couldn’t ask DM because there’s tension) - I was instructed to contact my PRM and now I’m waiting on a reply!

You shouldn’t have quit impulsively, it’s always best to give notice

That’s bullshit this year. Some of the best bar stars are breaking down on the bar, unless you’re asking not to be put on bar because your anxiety, that’s not a reason

I don’t think cursing is necessary but okay.

I’m trying to understand OP’s situation a little better without automatically making judgements one way or the other. If OP has been there 9 months it seems weird that this only started 3 months ago. I don’t know if that’s when OP disclosed or if there was a particular incident.
