Which drinks charge for milk?!!! (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by starphasedbabe
Hi everyone! New barista here!! I’m working happy hour today and I’m still at POS learning, and my biggest issue is that I don’t know which drinks charge for milk?! I get pretty confused on which drinks I would click “with soy” or just “soy” for charge or no charge and I really don’t want to mess up on an extremely busy day like today. I had a shift lead put post it notes on the left and right hand side of the system to tell me which one I would click but someone might have thrown them away after my shift and now I can’t remember, can someone give me a quick run down??

Yep, real easy. If you use 4oz or less (4oz = half a cup, if that helps you imagine it), you use the right side that doesn't charge. It's usually a drink made of something else with a bit of milk added. If the drink is made OF milk entirely, it's the left side. Americano with cream is made mostly of water. Right side, boom. Latte made with cream is allllll cream. Left side (breve, in this case), boom.

this being said, we shouldn’t be charging people if they want milk in their iced coffee right (like from the middle line to the top line in the cup)? because i was under the impression that we don’t but a partner (not SM or shift) yelled at me for using ‘with almond milk’ instead of ‘almond milk’

You were right and the other person was wrong. That amount (middle line to top line) is the textbook definition of when to use the "with almond milk" button. Glad to hear that other person doesn't have actual authority in your store, because wow are they wrong.

Another way to visualize 4 oz is half of a short cup!

hi!!!! so anything over 4oz will be an upcharge-- for example, if somebody wanted a latte made with almond milk, you would charge them for the milk! if somebody just wants an americano with almond milk, you won't need to charge for it, as it'll most likely just be a splash.

think abt drinks standardly made w/ more than 4oz of milk.... lattes, mochas, even frappuccinos we charge for milk substitutes. i hope this is helpful enough, if u have any more questions lmk!
