Hey. I started about two months ago and had 5 days of training. I started optimistic but it seems like every day is worse and worse. I feel like I get behind in every area. They keep having me do DTO and window at the same time and when I’m on bar I’m always swimming in drinks having to ask questions and all my co workers get annoyed. When I’m up front I have to do food and brew coffee and restock and do backup and greet and take orders from customers at the same time. When does it get better? Do I just suck?

ive never met a single Starbucks partner that ever felt ready after training. Starbucks doesn't give partners enough time so you end up learning while on the job. the tasks you do every day will soon become natural but you need to give yourself time and patience because when you freak out about what other people are thinking of you thats when you mess up the most.
I wasn't comfortable until about 3 months in and even now that im 1 year in I ask questions. its normal and you do not suck!

I think it’s based where you work, as I’m a cafe. I’m almost done with my 2nd week. And I have the conference I want to go back on cold bar/hot bar to get more practice. I ask frequent questions but I always ask what needs to be worked on each shift (I always ask my trainer what can do to improve, feedback is what I like even if it’s telling me I’m doing a horrible job). POS is the only thing that throws me off as I do not know drinks as much. I have prior food experience so I know what’s it like being pressured and thrown in situations with little to no training.

You don’t suck and know you did NOT have the proper amount of time training!!! So keep going at it; you’ll get it! It just takes time! Hopefully your shifts and fellow baristas are supportive! Good luck to ya!

On bar after two months??? Yo what’s going on at your store lol I wasn’t put on bar for 4 months. If your coworkers get annoyed then screw them because it’s hard to learn everything. Like everyone else is saying, ask questions. You can’t be expected to get it after 2 months. It took me like SIX months to even become a decent barista. Everyone learns at a different pace. You started working at a really stressful time

I’ve been there since October 5 and I’m like one of the main bar people now but the drinks are super simple to me

Honestly they did the exact same with our green beans that have been around for about 2 months now. Trained them on DTO for about two days, barely trained them on bar and then left them to figure it out and we are a high volume drive thru. At this point it’s all hands on deck when it comes to training. 😂

Myself and pretty much everyone else has cried over this damn job. I’ve even cried at work multiple times. I’ve been here over a year.

I feel the same exact way, I started only a month ago. Personally, I'm taking advantage of the free therapy we can get through Lyra which is my recommendation. It's rough but everyone I talk to says it takes at least three months, so you only have one to go! You don't suck, I don't suck. The training is awful and half online. Plus we got thrown into the worst time ever, holiday season during COVID. We are technically understaffed because we aren't allowed to have proper staffing numbers. It is not your fault.

Also curious what day time you are working when you’re front, warming, coffee (CS), AND restock all at the same time?

Mid day and nights😔

Ok, that makes more sense. Mids and nights are more of a task oriented play compared to mornings which are planted and specific. Still, give it time, talk to your shift. Ask them what they want you to be focused on. Every store is a little different because of volume and staffing and Covid. But restock (in a perfect world) should be its own thing. but it all depends on each store and the volume you guys have. So like if your front isn’t busy; and coffee and warming is caught up; restock things, make back ups, empty a trash if you can, etc etc...don’t mean to overstep because every store is a little different depending on how busy they are. So talk to your shift!
