New managers.... again....rant (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by Beap92
It’s our 3rd SM, and our 4th ASM since COVID started over here.
Also, did you know that is a customer makes a request like “no ice” we’re supposed to put “extra” of the other ingredients?
Because I found out for the first time yesterday when the new ASM was chastising for not doing it. She’s a transplant from McDonalds, she can’t remember to put whipped cream on Frappuccino’s, but she can pull me to the back to warn me about this. She also cut my hours in half on the first schedule she’s made, after having a conversation with each partner about hours, and writing down our normal/desired hours.😤

She sounds like a bitch and I’ve never heard of that “rule”. When people ask for no ice in a latte I just fill it with milk. I don’t add extra syrup or shots or anything. When people order no ice refreshers you still do the regular amount of berries but just extra juice and water/lemonade/coconut milk

Yeah, the physical practice I always do, it’s the verbal warning I got for not putting it into the POS/sticker

Technically, yes, for inventory reasons, you’re supposed to do “extra” of the ingredients when you do light or no ice, and technically “light” of the ingredients when they want extra ice, but I can’t really tell you the last time Starbucks actually gave a shit about inventory and pars to that degree.

I do understand that out of the context of her giving me a verbal warning about it.
But why is she giving me a verbal warning for something that Starbucks does NOT train us for?
[deleted] 8 points 2y ago
Because she thinks that it’s necessary to be that extra about the rules. I’ve never worked at a McDonalds but I’ve had enough outside hire managers that they don’t understand and where the line is and what their expectations are versus what the realities are.

Honestly they encourage us to give away so much shit, I don’t know why they bother with inventory at all.

Yeah, “make the moment right” and freaking out over inventory are mutually exclusive principals😅

Give her time. She’ll figure it out and calm down, or she won’t be able to cope and she’ll leave. It’s the only options.

I remember in the fall training it was specified that we have to add extra of the ingredients but new management loves to go on power trips like that, it’s truly not a big deal tbh

I was not scheduled for fall training. So that’s fun. For me. GAHHHH

Soooooooo not to be that person, but y’all know that in the weekly update they released many months ago, they mentioned this in particular, and even included instructions for how to ring it up. For example, a venti açaí refresher, light ice, extra base.
Doing this stuff may seem annoying, but makes for an accurate inventory, which in turn , if done correctly, adds to your allotted labor. Also it’s sad to say, but any job isn’t based on how hard you work, but how much you’re liked and the results you can visibly produce, just be an anchor for these newbies, show them they can confide in you and rely on you and you’ll quickly see those hours shoot up. The transition is just as stressful for her I imagine.

We aren’t shown the weekly updates unless we throw a hissy fit about it

Well, it comes out every Monday. And you can find it on partner hub on the front page under store communications. If this is a huge problem, maybe make it a point to whatever higher ups you feel necessary. Or just print it out and hang it up, then you’re a hero.

Not in Canada
Silly_Goose2 3 points 2y ago
Even in Canada! Granted your manager should be printing it for you but if you want to read it, you just have to log on to partner hub on a work device. It's exactly where the above poster mentioned.

I never read the weekly updates. I was never trained that we even had such a thing. I guess we're supposed to read it every Monday before our shift? I was also never told that. I've never read it in my 1.5 years of being here... They need to make training better.
