Never have I ever acknowledged the existence of the “secret menu” to a customer. You want your bullshit drink? Aight, imma play dumb and make you google that shit and read off every single ingredient. And when you close your phone, imma ask you to repeat it all again to “make sure I have it correct.” I’ll even do that while on DTO.

We had someone come in asking for some tiktok drink by name and the manager kept saying well that's not on the menu. You can keep telling us you want it, but none of us know how to make it. Do YOU know what's in it? Of course she didn't. She threw a fit like we were just supposed to KNOW because a website SAID we would. Ugh.

I hate it when people order a "secret menu" drink by name but they have the recipe pulled up. Like just read it off! My worst experience with secret menu drinks was when I was a green bean... Someone in drive ordered the "IT frappuccino" and I couldn't remember what it was. There had been a lot of people ordering them, but I wasn't making drinks yet (which def helps in remembering). The Karen ordering got pissed when I asked her for the recipe because "we've gotten them here before." I wasn't saying you can't get them, I just need to know how to type it in! Smh

I always make people tell me what's in it, because of green beans. It's a good time to learn cups; reading and writing. And someone's might have the same name but have different ingredients (candy bar fraps are ALL different)

I always play dumb and make them look it up. I *might* know how to make it, but I’ve got a bunch of green beans in my store who are still learning how to ring up nitro.
Sometimes I go the extra mile and explain that the secret menu isn’t real, it’s just as if your cousin made up a drink, named it and then you came in to my store and asked for the drink your cousin made up. I tell them we’ll do our best to make it if they have a recipe, but unfortunately I don’t know it!

I completely don’t mind making unusual customizations. The issue is when customers expect us to know these external recipes and get rude about it.

Every time someone comes to me with the secret menu drink, I’ll look behind me and tell them let me see if we got a secret menu somewhere, ahh no but do you know what’s in it? If they tell me no, I ask them to look it up and if I have a line I tell them to let me take the next person order while they search.

You’re missing the point. We’re talking about “Sarah”. On Tik Tok, she saw a vanilla bean frapp with 1 pump toffee nut, 2.5 pumps hazelnut, caramel drizzle and mocha drizzle. The girl in the tik tok video called it the “Snickers Drink,” so Sarah comes to Starbucks and ordered the Snickers drink. But Starbucks doesn’t have a snickers drink, and there are 20 different versions of this “Snickers Drink” recipe on the internet and Sarah refuses to look up the recipe. We are saying Sarah is an ass.

I HAVE had customers get upset at me for not knowing how to make their secret menu drinks and then refuse to look it up. Maybe you just live in an area with nicer people. No one here is even saying they refuse to make the drinks, it's just such a hassle for both the customer and the barista that it ends up annoying everyone. This is a space for baristas to come discuss things like this, so theres no reason for you to be acting all high and mighty. You work the exact same job as us but we all have different experiences. I'm sorry that you feel we shouldn't be in food service for having bad opinions about our job, but not everyone can just pick and choose what jobs they want to do. For a lot of people, they're only hanging on out of desperation. Just let us have this place to talk about the bullshit this job puts us through and don't be a dick.
