How is this SUPPOSE to go down (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by RenEldritch
So yesterday (11/12) around 3:30pm, my SSV gets a call from his gf, which they live together, that her covid test come back positive.
We contact our temp Store Manager, she tries to find coverage for the SSV to keep us open and working. wtf
We have been working together for over 3 hours with this SSV.
Can’t find coverage for a happy hour / closing shift, of course. Temp SM tells us to tell the customers that due to “staffing issues” we are closing down the store, right now.
Our cafe is packed and drive thru is around our building ending at our front door.
So we close down the store.
The SSV stays with us, social distances, counts the drawers. While the rest of us close the store down. Scared. Worried. Unsure of what exactly to do. Some of the closers have shifts tomorrow as well.
We were not told to do any deep cleaning, just shut it down. So we didn’t.
Today (11/13), our store opens like nothing happened. No updates from the SM.
I, personally, have worked with this shift the last few days for hours at a time.
I live with family that have health issues and compromised immune systems due to certain medication they have to take.
Just recently another SSV let us know that our temp SM says we can go on like normal.
WTF
Can anyone tell me, is this right? Is Starbucks now ok with this type of response to something like this?
Shouldn’t those who have been working with this SSV be self isolating?
Thanks for reading and replying.

Starbucks doesn’t give a fuck about their employees health, it’s all about making money. Store close to mine had a bunch of COVID cases, so they sent their employees to our store without anyone being tested while they closed down their store for 2 days. 2 days and then functioning like normal with nearly the entire staff of their store and now our store being exposed. I feel so worthless to this company.

Someone should remind Starbucks that sick and dead people can’t buy frappuccinos

Oh yeah! Thats what happened at my store, except we were the ones closed down and sending partners to other stores. Like the initial exposure was a Wednesday and we all found out on shift Sunday! I had worked with the person on Wednesday, had 3 days off, came back Sunday, and we closed the store at like 1 or something. But people who worked with me apparently didn't have to quarantine and were sent to other stores because they didn't work directly with the person who was confirmed with covid on Wednesday, the last day they had worked.

But they had been exposed to me, who had been exposed to the person who had it and others who had been exposed to that person as well over the last few days. Sooo...yeah. It's some dirty shit.

Like wtf????

*Technically* I’m just saying TECHNICALLY twice removed exposure doesn’t count. It only would if you had it. You can’t get it from someone who was exposed to someone who was exposed

So by Starbucks standards, you’re not being required to self isolate because you yourself have not been in direct, prolonged contact with someone who has tested positive for COVID-19. Now if your shift was to test positive, that would be a different story.

Is it fucked up? Absolutely. You should still call PRC because all this needs to continue to be reported so Starbucks can see how absolutely flawed their standards are.

Yes you should be isolating. I thought that if everyone atleast wore a mask, we should be safe. My mom was wearing a mask and helping a coworker out closely for a few minutes (who was also wearing a mask). That coworker tested positive first and my mom tested positive and my whole family has corona including me. Didn’t know the virus could spread so quickly. This opened my eyes by seeing how business will value money over customers lives in a heartbeat. It infuriates me why business don’t want to shut down. If your situation is like my mom’s and you were not properly socially distanced for several minutes, you have a right to be extremely upset and worried.

Your SM should have immediately sent that SSV home and come in to shut down the store themselves. Corporate is for sure putting customers (and money) ahead of everything else, but who isn't these days. That said, definitely make sure that SSV gets a Covid test, like they're supposed to. If they test positive sh\*t's gonna hit the fan for your store as they will have to deep clean everything and anyone who worked with them will have to isolate and get tested as well. Also, make sure you've been checking in correctly; not properly checking everyone in every day is a fireable offense now.

This happened at my old store. Enough of us complained to the DM that the SM had no choice but to shut down the store for a cleaning but as long as we didn’t have symptoms, we were told to keep working. After this summer, only the person with symptoms quarantines as far as we’ve been told

We were told if anyone got COVID we would all need 2 weeks off with pay and have a crew deep clean the store. The first partner got sick and we were told that it didn’t matter.. now five of us have COVID and guess who has an opening shift tommrow

Let’s say that hypothetically a partner tested positive at our store but sense they hadn’t been in the store since the started showing symptoms, we didn’t shut down and are still working. Also let say, hypothetically that she was at work all day before starting symptoms. Also, what if, hypothetically, the sm told us we didn’t even have to isolate. What would y’all do?
