anyone else frustrated that we are considered essential? my store has been going through it all but we are doing so well in sales (lol) that they will do everything to stay open.

It’s complete bullshit that Starbucks labelled itself essential

I mean all fast food/restaurant are labeled as “essential” they are a providing a good/service. Now if you asked me if Trump and state governors took covid serious and locked down the country for two full weeks back in March we would of been fine. Meaning only true essentials (Medical, Police, fire fighters, along with grocery stores) which shuts down restaurants, fast food, bars, etc. we would of not been stuck in this pandemic. We would of not had mass layoffs we would of continue to live a normal life around April. But nah we probably going to a second lockdown. As much as I hate what’s going on some states can’t even afford to pay for millions of people relief funds. Personally this is coming from someone being laid off for 7 months, ones mental health took a hit because of Covid, have high risk family members (some of which I stayed away from for their protection). You do not want to rely on government assistance. I was lucky I manage to get by but I have had people who are homeless or in deep debt because they got screwed. They rather be working and not see family for a while.

They did it in Canada too though

I agree. It's definitely frustrating, especially since in some areas they're opening cafes and restaurants, which defeats the entire purpose of wearing a mask. I understand to a certain extent why we're considered essential, but when you really think about it, we aren't. They should have had us on a mandatory lock down until they were able to get this virus under control. Now they're acting as if it does exists and I'm worried that it's gotten to the point where we won't be able to control it because of how selfish and spoiled we are as Americans.

Tbh I hope my state (CA) don’t shutdown, I’m willing to work double shifts if my partners don’t feel safe to work. I’m a new hire I just don’t want to rely on government assistant. I know the risk but I have bills to pay.

Edit: for all who down vote look if you don’t want to work fine by me i totally respect that let those who were unemployed since the pandemic started and couldn’t find jobs work. Trust me you do not want to relying on the government for assistance be grateful you still have a job as once you get laid off it will be hard to find work again.

Idk why you’re getting downvoted for like. Not wanting to default on your bills. I’m a new hire as well and I use this job to pay my bills and I’m also worried. I’m also ineligible for government assistance because I’m a college student and my mothers dependent so if I lose this job idk what I’ll do

The cares act saved me without it I would of been in debt people are just too stubborn. I have 6 friends who won’t even get hired at McDonald’s or Burger King because of their past experiences and degree they even try dumping themselves down still no luck.

You still qualify for unemployment money I’m pretty sure. I’m in grad school and am still a dependent but i was able to get unemployment, just not the stimulus check. A lot of my friends were in the same boat and qualified for UE
XxTRUEPINOYxX 3 points 2y ago
I was unable to get the stimulus check cares act saved me but only getting ~$300 two weeks is not enough for me to survive. I rather be working
Different_Sound 2 points 2y ago
Gotcha, my bad. The extension to the normal UE is what helped me too
XxTRUEPINOYxX 3 points 2y ago
I been on unemployment since March 2020-October 2020 trust me you do not want to be on this at all.

Just a note: i was on extension mid august till I got hired. I was a college student so I was claimed. I was only saved by the cares act because the pandemic allowed all people get unemployment benefits. Normally part timers do no qualify

Yeah as long as we can close the lobby I'm in. Yesterday I counted 15 people in our lobby at peak. Added bonus: making people wear a mask in the drive-thru.

I can't even pay my bills working bc my wages are so low but ok

The reason for down votes i believe is that you DO NOT SEEM concerned with the fact that your stance is tje reason there is an issue with the spread of the virus.

I won't judge, I just have lived it. I worked thru the whole thing, went to work and home no where else, brought the virus home and watched as I got sick and my children all fell ill.

We need to get control of the virus PERIOD.

You are worried about bills? You won't believe the medical bills I have now from our battle with the virus and the ensuing recovery.

Read... i said I wasn't judging... I worked every shift I could so that my kids and I wouldn't have to be on any government assistance.... I bought the vile monster home and had to watch as an ambulance drove my youngest son away. I was simply stating why you where receiving down votes.
