Trenta sized Rant! (self.starbucksbaristas)

Had to inform my store manager today that one of our SSVs is being kinda toxic to some of our new beans, including me.

This person talks down to new beans who are just learning how to do their jobs, to the point it almost sounds like theyre being berated. I notice it really depletes their morale so I always try to cheer them on and be supportive. Teach them. Patiently.

It also bugs me that she seems to have been w SB for a while, but every shift I’ve had w her has been chaotic bc she doesn’t seem to know what she’s doing. Even simple things like put on the music for the store.

When I came in today, this person, like usual, was running a hot mess store, no music, and my poor fellow baristas were so stressed tryna keep up w her lack of clear leadership and guidance.

My disappointment and displeasure came to a climax towards the end of my shift, when this person had THE AUDACITY to tell me “finish this line of drinks before U clock out” (like 5 drinks) when she DID NOT even give me a break the entirety of my shift!!! And it’s like 10/15min past the end of my shift. My dad’s waiting outside to pick me up frm work.

I said “Im off now, Im making my drink n I’ma go”

She got upset and said she needed to talk to me at back of house. So when I go, she’s totally oblivious and/or ignorant about her behavior all shift, and says to not be “sassy” to her, but she’s like going awf on me! Lmfao!

Her energy was so discordant that another SSV who is just coming in for his shift notices, and points out to her that Ive kept my composure, while she’s back there looking kinda hysterical. At this point, She tries to save face n front a “we worked it out” and it’s like 30min after my shift, and Im just letting her talk so I can leave.

Def called my manager and let him know.

Unacceptable! You betta believe I’ma be on her case and she better be nice bc I do not tolerate bullying/bad work ethic towards my partners, and certainly not towards myself.

If you find yourself in this position, ¡SPEAK UP! and INFORM your managers and corporate!!!

Starbucks should be a nurturing calm safe environment for both workers and customers! Especially during a pandemic!

If I’m scheduled to get off a certain time then I’m leaving. I’m not obligated to stay. I will check in with my shift a few minutes before to give them a heads up and make sure they don’t want me to do anything but you only have to be there for as long as you’re scheduled.

During our conversation at back of house, she was complaining how she got there 20min earlier today (i dont even blieve her) and couldnt get ahead and stuff... I had to stop her and remind her “That’s your time. We’re talking about my time. You have to be mindful of people’s time.” The concept seemed so foreign to her.

My manager said we would talk it over tomorrow in person! Im excited to slay her all over again! 🙃

it drives me insane that shifts like this exist and then i was told to my face by my old SM that i would never move up because i personally like to prioritize the store> customers because 1. everyone else prioritizes the customers and no one else cleans / stocks / maintains the store (not even the shifts) so 2. you need the store to have customers. i absolutely love connecting with them and stuff, but someone has to care about the store and telling me i would ‘never be able to move up’ because of that is crazy considering there’s shifts like this who can’t even run a shift much less prioritize the customers (how can you when your shift is a hot ass mess?)

oh see, i’m in a similar situation. we’ve got a SSB who literally berates everyone with no shame, consistently has a bad attitude, complains about being there, the usual. i would safely bet everyone in our store has gone to the manager at least once, i know i’ve gone more than that. and still she is a shift. but me, who supposedly has an “attitude problem” only made it to trainer after a year and a half while others who’ve been there months get promoted. so yeah. i know this struggle.
