Rant. On the verge of quitting. (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by MariasGalactic
Work at a Tarbucks, I have since 2013, minus a year and a half where I was a barista somewhere else. Love the job, but I’m so sick and tired of being yelled at and talked down to over coffee.

A young dude and his little sister came in today. They ordered 3 drinks, were nice, all is cool. The little sister comes back and says her brother wants his frapp remade, it has too much milk in it. I was like okay, no problem, so I made it again with an extra pump of roast and syrup so it would taste less milky, I guess.

An hour or so later she comes back and brother is storming in with one of the other drinks. I ask him what’s up, and he snaps “What did you give me?” I was like a salted caramel mocha, is that not what you wanted? He says no, he wanted a salted caramel. I was like okay, well the holiday drink is a salted caramel mocha, it has mocha and toffee nut, and asked him if he wanted just the toffee nut, no mocha, or if he was wanting a more caramel based drink with the salt.

He goes off on me arguing about how he wants a salted caramel and he shouldn’t have to come back, and he starts cussing. I explained again that a salted caramel isn’t exactly a drink, so I just wanted to clarify and that I’ll remake it, but if he was that upset I could give him a refund for all the drinks. He’s cussing and says he just wants it remade. We have a full line at this point, so I asked the other barista to hand me another cup to remake it. I remake it, and he complains it’s the wrong size. Oh my god. So I’m like okay, I’ll make it again. He starts yelling at me, in front of everyone, that the person who the drink is for is highly allergic to chocolate and that I’m not taking the situation seriously. I apologized saying I assumed it was the salted caramel mocha, and I am remaking it. He keeps yelling and cussing at me, I just keep repeating that I’m remaking it for him, but at this point I’m shaking. Finally I asked the other barista if he would remake it, again, for the 4th time, because I was suppose to be off 30 minutes earlier and wanted to just remove myself from the situation.

The other barista was like yeah sure, so I explained what he wanted, then I was telling the other baristas that I was going to print some more of our cleaning logs, I’d bring them back, then I have to clock out and go.

The guy starts saying “get the fuck out of here, fucking go”.

I can usually handle the bullshit, but I sat in my car and cried afterwards because every day it’s something different over a freaking cup of coffee. Tomorrow I’m asking to be moved out of Starbucks and into another department. I mentally cannot handle it anymore

That is NOT ok! I’m so sorry. Do you guys do incident reports at Tarbucks? Try to note that down if you can. And maybe ask if you can ban the person? That is so ridiculous. And we should NEVER be responsible for someone else’s allergy.

We usually just tell our managers or the security about it so they’re aware in case they come back or if they call. I’m going to talk to someone tomorrow about it. There’s actually another person I deny service to every time he comes for being a jerk to another barista, but this guy was far worse. I should’ve denied him service but I was just trying to help at first, and then I was so shaken up by how aggressive he was being in front of everyone in the lobby. Next time he comes I’ll deny him. If you’re that allergic to something, maybe specify that before ordering something that has it? Like show me where it says salted caramel on the menu, it doesn’t, it says salted caramel mocha.

I agree with previous poster, this is totally unacceptable behavior from an ignorant child. As a infrequent customer, though, I have to wonder at your other guests just .... standing there.

When did we start allowing people to get away with such deplorable manners. Why, in the world, do we decide it's not our problem when some entitled idiot thinks abusing a retail employee is a great achievement. Frankly, I think it's time for us customers to get a grip and stand up to bullying and abusive behavior wherever and whenever we see it.

At the very least, start hissing at them to let these entitled infants know we see them, and they are snakes that need to be ashamed.

At my old store we had a regular and she would always defend us if someone was ugly. It always felt so great knowing she was in our corner. I wish more people were like her.
