I work at a kiosk in a Tom Thumb and we’ve always rung up and made our own drinks. I was taught that we’re allowed to as long as we have our receipt. It came up in a conversation with my store manager and she was like “no ma’am, you’re not allowed to ring yourself up and if you *do* get a drink someone else has to make it for you” (she was super nice about it, i’m not in trouble). Look, most of our shifts are solo especially right now because we’re so short staffed. If I’m hungry or thirsty, I do not want to go get something from the store when I can make it myself right there and still be available for customers. Wtf?? This is absolutely new news to me and my partners. Thoughts?

It’s pretty standard for it to be against the rules for you to ring yourself up. That’s basic fraud prevention.
Then the argument is that since you should only be getting drinks while on your break, and since you shouldn’t be on the floor while on your break, then you shouldn’t be in a position where you’re on the floor and responsible for making your own drink while on your break.

Ugh yeah that’s true you’re not suppose to. But that rule is BS and annoying especially when you could just do it yourself and you’re still letting the system know that you’re marking out a beverage. My store was pretty lax with it unless we had a borrowed shift or borrowed manager that being annoying.

I work at a licensed store also, but I’m a target and it’s the same for us. We can’t make our own drinks and cannot ring ourselves up. We usually end up making our own drinks, but then let someone else ring us up.
Sometimes we’re alone, however, so it’s like what am I suppose to do?

i’m a rehire and at my new store they don’t let us make our own drinks which was a huge change for me as my old SM would literally come into work during peak and make her drink (it was super annoying lmao but obviously she let us make ours and ring them up) and it drives me crazy! most of my shifts are super cool about it unless it’s busy and you’re in everyone’s way. but that’s even more annoying especially if you’re working solo
