What would you do? (self.starbucksbaristas)

I requested off on a specific day at least 3 weeks in advance because I have a final for school on that day and my manager came up to me and told me that I can’t have off because 4 other people already requested off. I explained that I have a final on that day and also a final on the next day and her response was “can you work before or after it”. If I’m working an 9 hour shift I won’t have time to study. School comes first over this stupid job. I will try to get coverage but if no one can cover me I literally will just not show up...is that really bad? I don’t want to screw my co workers over but getting a good grade on my final is was more important that working at Starbucks lol

If you have PTO or sick time USE IT. This job is not worth your grade, in the slightest bit. Your manager should be understanding of that. Worse comes to worse you get written up (ultimately is not a bad thing especially if you call out “sick” that day) I have a manager who simply wouldn’t want to do the paperwork if I were in your situation so do it. Good luck on your final! Make sure to eat plenty and hydrate!

The worst you’re looking at is a write up for an unexcused absence.

Because you’ve already told your manager that you need this day off for personal reasons, calling in “sick” the day before won’t do you much good.

i’d literally just call in the night before like that’s so dumb you can’t take a day off for an exam
