shift questions? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by loganank
So, after just a bit over a month with the company, my sm asked if I was interested in being a shift and went on to say that I would be a good fit when the position opens up in a couple months or so. I was really caught off guard, although I'm incredibly grateful for the opportunity. My main issue is, I feel like a barely know what I'm doing as a barista. So I guess I just want to know if anyone has any tips on how I can make myself a better fit for the role? (Sorry if this seems silly or badly worded, I just got off a shift.)

Honestly, I wouldn’t suggest moving onto the SSV role until you fully understand what you’re getting into, and the role you’re actually taking on being a shift depending on if you’re open/mid/close because it comes with a lot of responsibility and considering only been part of starbucks for a little over a month you don’t know everything just yet and that takes at least 4 months to become familiar with everything. That’s way too early for a promotion even at your 4-5 month mark unless you’ve had past jobs in a shift lead role. Don’t set yourself up to get burnt out on the job.

I appreciate this. I know one of our current shifts was promoted after around 2 months, so it seems to be a theme at this store. I'm hesitant because I lack the confidence I feel like I should have.
