I really enjoy the dark roast pour over. (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by tomsurfsoc
I’ve been offered this in the afternoons when stores are no longer making dark roast.

Is it ok to order this in the am? I prefer a fresh cup when I hit the drive through and often times I can tell when the dark roast has been sitting for a while it gets really acidic and it’s a bummer to pay $3.00 for a cup of bad coffee.

If you’re going to ask for a pour-over, it would be helpful if you came inside. Pour overs take time and can screw up the store’s drive thru times for no fault of their own.

You can definitely do this! Some baristas may get slightly annoyed, but you are paying for it so you should enjoy it. If you're in the drive-thru, you may be asked to pull forward depending on how busy the store is/how long the pour over is taking.

idk if "slightly annoyed" is the word for having to do extra work for coffee we have brewing already. afternoons have their peaks but I would say AM shifts see different types of people who are usually in a rush so I personally wouldn't order a pour over in the morning.

Yeah I usually open, but people order decaf pour overs anyway which is the same amount of time delay (but I get what you mean since it's already brewing). Honestly, as long as customers are nice I don't mind putting in extra work for them

i don’t suggest you do it in drive thru, but come inside to get one instead.

reason being (okay, don’t come at me, you didn’t hear this from me) is that if, at my store, you ordered a dark roast pour over in the drive thru, whatever barista is on bar is most definitely going to pour a cup from the already brewed coffee and give it to the drive thru.

if you come inside, it will be the front till partner brewing it for you, and you can watch. plus, we’re not as pressed for time.

at my store we are even able to brew any dark roast we have in stock on the shelves! gold coast, french- whatever you want to try, we can do a pour over of it. not sure if this is all stores or just mine.

Awesome thanks. Yea my main concern was angering the workers and slowing things down. Appreciate the info.

You can order a pour over, but it does put the store at a standstill for about 5 minutes cuz you’re taking a barista off bar to do it. If it’s slow it’s fine, but I would recommend ordering an americano instead. I mean, you’re paying you can get whatever you want but I honestly don’t think we should offer pour overs at all.

We are literally a coffee shop? I'll take pourovers over having to make fraps or TikTok drinks any day. Heck, sometimes I wish we could break out the French press that's in the back :/

I mean same, but I think we’re more of a fast food joint anyway. If I become a barista at a local real coffee shop I’ll stop complaining about pour overs lol. But as long as there’s a drive thru, pour overs suck.

I get what you mean about wanting fresh coffee. Sometimes when it's crazy busy, although we are supposed to brew it fresh every 30 mins, it can get neglected with the person in charge of brewing it having a million other pressing tasks to do. Fresh coffee always tastes best.

However, if you're coming in the morning, please don't go through the drive-thru. During the morning is when our times really matter and we'll get in trouble if we have really bad drive-thru times, even if it's like "the customer wants something that literally takes 5 mins."

Just come inside. Be nice. Even give a little explanation as you gave here, "I know you have it brewing but a really fresh cup would just make my day."

9/10 times, when a barista is "annoyed" about something, it's because it's time-consuming. Pretty much it comes down to, "we don't want to get yelled at by the manager and we don't want to get yelled at by other customers for long wait times."
