Customer Microaggressions (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by philosopher_cat_lady
Me, to woman who doesn't have a mask on but has already placed her order while she had one on: Ma'am, would you mind keeping your mask on?
Customer: Excuse me?!
Me: Ok. \*looks around, sees my shift supervisor nearby\*
Customer: I didn't hear what you said.
Me: Would you mind keeping your mask on?
Customer: \*sarcastically\* No problem. I had to go to the bathroom. \[I go back to drive-thru.\] (to her teenage daughter) I'm six feet away from them. They're the mask police over here. (to the bar baristas) If a person sits at a table and drinks their coffee, do they do it with a mask on? \[The bar baristas humor her by saying no.\] I didn't think so.
Me: (half to myself, half not caring if the customer hears me) They're not allowed to. \[We're operating as grab-and-go.\]

The woman continues to bitch and moan and never puts her mask on. Apparently, her daughter laughed at her the whole time.

My store switched back to grab and go only today, finally. This woman comes in and places her order, and then sits down at a table with a sign that clearly says “this table is closed”. We basically just ignored her because she was the only one in the cafe and quickly made her drink so she would leave. She gets her drink, then goes back and sits down! My SM went to tell her that we’re sorry but the seating area is closed. She says, with the most annoyed tone “oh I know I’m just getting my things together!” .... we have been getting so much attitude and rudeness from customers and I get so angry!!! I shouldn’t have to tell 45+ year old people to follow directions.

The reason they act like that is they don't respect the store. (Not to mention its employees. It wastes our time when we have to go communicate in person what they already read on the sign). They also don't care about not spreading their germs. For the longest time we had the same problem until our store manager finally moved the chairs along the walls. She wasn't allowed to at first because our district manager wanted our café to look "inviting." I personally don't even know if she was allowed to move them the other day.

And the fact that these customers were annoyed at us: that is ridiculous. If you don't want to get confronted about your behavior and asked to change it, follow the rules in the first place.

where’s the microaggression, I’m not understanding?
philosopher_cat_lady [OP] 2 points 2y ago
I guess most of her behavior was just plain aggressive
Jewicer 2 points 2y ago
oh, yeah I agree. microaggression is different, though
philosopher_cat_lady [OP] 1 points 2y ago
The "Excuse me?!" would be an example of one. She did several

That just sounds like being an asshole. A microaggression has to do with stereotypes or passive derogatory remarks towards a minority group.
