"Why is going back to work worth dying for?"

"Dont ask me. You're going to be the one dying."

Nothing actually ever closed down in my state after the initial two months of lockdown except for us. In fact, most businesses actually only closed down for two weeks or a month. As our store still closes down every other day because of potentially infected partners, the people of my city get angry that we're still taking the pandemic seriously or even recognizing that there still is one at all.

My state is #1 in the world for active cases, and the only ones that still care are large corporations like Starbucks, and Starbucks has done a great job taking care of us. I don't think we should close down completely and get paid for not working, but that doesn't mean we should go back to business as usual. My store has had the lobby closed off and on for almost two months, and it's been wonderful. We can cope with less hours and lower staff.

Heck, I did happy hour with my shift, just the two of us, and it was fine. The best part was that I was only in contact with the customers when they handed me cash or had me use their physical SB card, but I wiped my hands and everything else off after handing them their change or card back.

That's how we've learned to deal with this: minimalizing contact and being strict with the Covid Coach before partners get on the floor. Overall, I'm impressed by Starbucks and how they've handled this, but I still have some major complaints such as Happy Hour. I understand where all the hate for corporate comes from, but I think that on the store level, we've done well, and I've heard the same from others in my district.

My store now does 6 man plays every morning and we are opening indoor cafe seating in two weeks.

This morning between 9 and 9:30 we took 59 customers.

My store only has 12 partners (9 baristas, 3 shifts) so having some people be only openers or closers doesn’t work.

No one in my store has over 25 hours.

We come in for 4-5 hour shifts. Run around like headless chickens, then clock out exhausted and disheartened.

Now we are gonna open indoor seating? Not only do we need to take the temperature of anyone who wants to sit inside. But we also need to take their contact info and keep it filed by date in case we have a case and we need to contact them. Not to mention we also need to open the bathroom if we open indoor seating and when are we supposed to find the time to sanitize it between everyone Tom, Dick, and Harry who needs to use it.

We also have seen some guys outside taking temperatures and taking photos because apparently corporate is considering outdoor seating for our store as well (we are in NYC)

I’m not saying Starbucks Corp. isn’t doing it’s due diligence. But as a partner. I’m not surprised.

My petty ass would definitely have told every costumer I would have been like “hi, he has covid and they’re forcing all of us to be confined here together, how can I help you today 🙃💕”
