Starting shift training in two weeks. Advice for success? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by MariahGunn
I got hired on in July as a shift but my manager wanted me to go through barista training first (thank god) so I’m about to start shift training and I want to be successful. I have a really great understanding of the barista job role since I’ve been doing it for awhile. I’ve run a few shifts now under my manager and despite being good with time management and supervising I’ve been struggling. Any shifts or managers with advice for a starting shift? Anything would be appreciated!

try not to always put people in the same position. your floors will be more successful and run smoother if everyone on the floor is comfortable in every position. be someone your baristas can trust, and something my manager told me when i got promoted: only complain across and up. never down. if something happens w a partner and you need to complain, don’t talk to baristas abt it. only shifts and your manager. you don’t wanna be known as the shift who talks shit. happy for you!

1) Learn to relax and go with the flow.. shit happens and its not gonna help you or your team to get frantic.
2)Time management is key, because partners appreciate breaks in adequate intervals, but we have tons of random responsibilities as shifts, and customers needs must be met.
3) always strive to set the next shift up for success because what goes around comes around.
4) remember you are human and will make mistakes. So are your baristas dont dwell and just keep swimming.
