New employee- footwear suggestions(self.starbucksbaristas)

Hey y’all! I’m a new employee and looking for comfortable footwear suggestions! I’m more of a converse gal but that’s against the dress code so looking for comfy and casual footwear ideas!

an inexpensive option: walmart. walmart carries a line of shoes for work that are all black, appropriate styles, nonslip, and have comfy soles. they range around $20. i got a pair that’s the same style as slip on vans (they have plenty of style options) and i LOVE them, they’re comfy and casual and easy to clean syrups and stuff off so they don’t get ratty looking.

👆🏼👆🏼👆🏼 i got the ones that look like converse, bc to me non-slip is essential here 😂

yes! the few days i wear nonslip shoes (bc “it’ll be fine, i really never even slip anyways” 🤦🏻♀️) i nearly die slipping

i wear sketchers memory foam nonslip! i hate any shoe that aren’t vans or converse, but these are a lifesaver. they were about $60, and shoes for crews has a lot of good shoes! my old pair from them lasted 2 1/2 years before they had to be thrown out

I bought some work shoes on Amazon for $30 that I've worn to the point that they're destroyed and planning to order another pair. They get me through the work day and are relatively comfortable.
Do NOT take suggestions for "Well this isn't slip-resistant or within dress code, but SO COMFY!!" shoes. The dress code specifies water resistance for a reason and it's not a bad idea to have slip resistance too.
You WILL spill extremely hot liquid on yourself at some point; the apron and good shoes exist to protect YOU. Floors are mopped daily and from spills, liquid tends to accumulate on floors. Protect yourself.
As others have mentioned, Walmart has a fantastic selection for around $20. Through Starbucks, once you have your partner numbers (and I think for this website it takes a few weeks for it to kick in) you can actually access discounts to stores such as Sketchers or Shoes for Crews when you purchase through a specific website (instructions on the Partner Hub under 'benefits').

I live in Canada and my manager suggested I get small leather or rubber boots or any leather sneakers. I was thinking converse leather shoes or any sketchers that are water resistant.
Thank you for your suggestions!!!

I wear $1. My manager actually suggested them because they’re cheaper, they can easily be wiped off and they are a little more protective from hot liquids than just cloth sneakers

AHH I WEAR THE SAME

So I rotate my work shoes depending on what in wearing. But Walmart is affordable and crocs are just a little bit more expensive but still fairly affordable. I work 36 to 40 hours a week so I need to know my feet are well taken care of.

Doc martins! They are a bit pricey but well worth it. They hold up to a lot and are so comfy. I wear them every shift and they have been through having sweet cream, lemonade, coffee, syrup, and everything else imaginable spilled on them. They wipe up easily and look brand new again. And they are so comfy and I have no problem wearing them all day every day. They go perfect with dress code and you can wear them with so many different styles. Definitely recommend!

Will add the caveat that if you don't already own Docs you're willing to spill coffee & syrup all over (personally, my Docs are too precious for this purpose lol), the breaking in period is INTENSE and you may need to break them in outside of work & use a different pair of work shoes in the meantime; you do NOT want to get stuck on a long shift on your feet with brand new Docs.

forreal, it was hell on earth breaking in my docs. it took me about 4 8 hour shifts to really be comfortable in them. now i cant live without them lol

I’ve been wearing doc martins for years. They are comfortable and also protect your feet from hot water spills. Plus you will look cool😎

I got my shoes from sketchers. They are nonslip and some kind of fake leather material so I can just wipe them off. Is the US at least, you are able to get a discount at sketchers because you work at Starbucks!

Definitely Sketchers!!

I wear huaraches, they aren’t slip resistant but they are super comfortable and they’ve lasted my a long time now (:

Honestly, they’re expensive, but the Rothy sneakers (lace-up) are A DREAM to work in. I’ve been working on my feet for the better part of a decade, and these are the best shoes I’ve ever had for work.
Plus! The shoes are made out of recycled plastic, yay environment! The soles are removable so you never have to replace the whole shoe. The whole company operates with sustainability in mind. They’re machine washable which is soooo great when you’re spilling milk, coffee, and goodness knows what all day long :)

Are they slip resistant and water resistant?
hecaete471 points2y ago
Rothy's are a woven material. Definitely not slip-resistant and I'm guessing not water-resistant if woven.
