Starbucks Doesn't Fire People When They Need to be Fired (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by philosopher_cat_lady
One opening barista calls out "sick" all the time then shows up later the same day to collect his tips and mention that he doesn't have COVID. Another coworker gets livid if I ask her to get an item for me when it's a task in her position. She also verbally abuses me.

Example:
I'm on DTR, she's on DTO. Since my position handles cash, I'm not allowed to touch drinks or food (unless I were to wash my hands first). My customer at the window has a bottle of water in their order but there isn't one on the counter yet. I ask her, "Would you get me a bottle of water?" She's literally standing in front of the fridge that contains the bottles of water. It's also where the DTO computer is. She rushes off in a huff just to physically demonstrate that she's not going to comply. One of the bar baristas annoyedly grabs it instead just to solve the problem she's created. Her behavior gets worse from there. She's now been fussed at twice for refusing to do her job. I mention over the headset, "Waiting on a spinach feta wrap at the window." Over the headset: "You're gonna be waiting for a while."

People who are incompetent on DTO are the worst, especially if they have an attitude

Incompetence (if given ample time to learn the skill) and a refusal to do one's job is grounds is termination. This isn't rocket science.

I don't know how old this person is, but reminds me of some of the very young people I work with 🙄

On the contrary, it reminds me of the only 2 people at our store who are over 50, one only does CS and the other warming, and how dare you ask them for anything
philosopher_cat_lady [OP] 5 points 2y ago
Ridiculous. Every barista needs to learn every position. It's how you can easily fill all the positions at any point in time.

Omg that reminds me of a lady I used to work with in the deli at Target, she had one purpose only, prep. Do not ask her to take care of customers cuz she would flip out I swear. Still part of the job but acted like it wasn't. I'm in my 40s now and I cannot get over how entitled some people are in their youth and old age smh.

What customer wants to witness an employee flipping out? It's completely unprofessional.

Ikr! Just do the job you're hired for please. You knew the job before you agreed to it. At least I hope you did, if not then quit if you don't like it.

This sounds like boomer behaviour to me
philosopher_cat_lady [OP] 2 points 2y ago
She's about 40
csaine 3 points 2y ago
Wow, I'm 41. My parents taught me work ethic as a kid. This makes me feel shame.
philosopher_cat_lady [OP] 2 points 2y ago
I'm 34. She probably thinks I'm 21 since I look way younger than I am and thinks that means she's smarter than I am

Sadness that people think so highly of themselves automatically.
