Starbucks Espresso Shot Ratio? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by chessboardd
Hi! I’m a former partner from the Philippines and I just got my Breville Barista Express and I want to recreate starbucks espresso shots at home so I wanted to know what is the Espresso Shot Ratio for a double shot that Starbucks is using? I have seen around the internet that many people are using the 1:2 ratio for espresso which is 18g in and 36g out but I’m convinced that Starbucks is using 1:3 because back when I was still working the shot glasses were full and if using 1:2 ratio the espresso is just halfway on the shot glass around 30ml terms of volume. So a little clarification for this please partners 😅

It would be nice if someone can weigh the ground coffee after tamping and then also weighing the shots. Measuring the time of pour is also appreciated but if I’m not mistaken the standard would be 18-21 secs.

It’s different now with the new Mastrenas, seems like the shot volume is much less than the old machines. It also depends on the beans and the grind you have it set to.

Hi I want to ask something
I bought my first coffee machine and went to starbucks to find right coffee for it. They suggested Verona and grinded it in 4 (I don’t know how to explain it in English, the grinding rate is 4)
I’m made lattes 4-5 times but there is no foam on espresso and I’m trying to make latte art things but in all videos I’ve watched there is foam on espressos
Is it about the coffee (Verona) or my cheap machine
Thanks in advance 😊

Our machines here (US) are automatic so we don’t tamper or have control over time. We do try to keep times to what you said. Really the most we do is adjust the grind (it tells it us to turn it courser or finer but that’s it) and press a button. Our new shot glasses hold multiple shots but I believe the old ones were roughly an ounce (30ml)
