Just rubbing my eyes wondering why Black Friday workers at Starbucks don't get Holiday Pay and Hazard pay.... (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by julieCivil
Oh God. The lines, the attitudes, the masses. Dear Baby Yoda and all that is good in the world, please poke a Sbux exec and make them compensate all partners working on Black Friday, especially in a pandemic when most people refuse to acknowledge said pandemic and carry on like the Karens they are.

Also, can I just say how THRILLED I am to close all weekend before opening next week? Clopens are FUN, THANKS, CAN'T WAIT.

Don’t worry bro my store manager gave up her shift so I could work a shift and I realized how badly I got played in the first 30 minutes of the shift

Who are these people and why aren't they at home sleeping off their food comas like the rest of america?

We should have been getting hazard pay this whole time. If the business is so “essential” than we should be getting paid for it. And Black Friday is just as busier or even busier than some holidays.

my stores suspiciously quiet today...
and my coworkers keep complaining how quiet it is but they're all off soon. so I guarantee you once they leave, 20 more customers will come in for every complaint they've made.

My store just reopened from being closed for two weeks. And I was the opener on Black Friday.. 😩 it was pretty horrible tbh

We don’t have hazard pay or holiday pay today because we aren’t unionized. We don’t have a seat at the table and can’t negotiate for better wages, benefits, conditions, etc. Today I asked my manager why we were no longer getting hazard pay, and they said it’s because we’re getting a 10% raise (that hasn’t even taken affect yet). Pretty sure the pandemic is in full swing, and I’m not sure about all of you, but unless you’re making $30/hr or more, a 10% raise doesn’t come out to more than hazard pay (assuming everyone was getting and extra $3/hr if you chose to work through the early days of the pandemic). That excuse for why we aren’t getting hazard pay doesn’t sit well with me. It’s insulting to our intelligence. Oh, and keep in mind that we make this company billions of dollars in profits each year while the executives (who are essentially useless and whose jobs could be done by workers) keep the vast majority of the wealth that we create; baristas, farmers, truck drivers, and all the workers who operate this company every day. All of us are overworked, under-appreciated, and the vast majority are living paycheck-to-paycheck.

The only way to overcome all this bullshit we’ve been dealing with is to organize and unionize which is exactly what’s in the works, but we need committed individuals at every location who can help to organize their workplace at the guidance of the wonderful union organizers from the UFCW who have kindly offered to help us. Please visit the r/UnionizeStarbucks subreddit or visit http://www.ufcw.org/resources/ for more info about the UFCW and how to organize your store.

We can do this friends. We’re powerful as one.

Black Friday, red cup, and holiday happy hour are exponentially worse than actual holidays and we don’t get pay. It’s a fucking nightmare. I’m never doing them again.

I’m working right now but on my 10. I’m telling you, it looks like a war zone in the lobby.

I'm so sorry for all y'all having to deal with the bad rushes :( Thankfully, my store is right next to some banks and real estate companies and they're closed today, so we didn't really get any sort of rush bc our store is a bit out of the way without other errands to run, at least until around 11 when ppl actually woke up after partying hard last night

Wanna hear the BEST equation....
Opening shift on T-day AND Black Friday + 75% partners who've NEVER experienced the 'fun' of a holiday season at SBux + 2 brand new green beans mid training (one a week in, other 2nd day on floor period) ....sounds like par for course so far? ***Sprinkles on top of WTH are you serious treat***
CORPORATE VIP + OUR DM VISIT... FOR NOON.... ON BLACK FRIDAY 🤣🤣🤣🤯🤯🤯🤦🤷🤦

Holy Baby Yoda, how are you still breathing? Major applause
