Looking for advice about dealing with COVID procedures at work / Tall rant (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by greenleafsheep
SO.. Today at work, a coworker had a slight cough. Not a constant cough but every so often we would hear her cough. Our shift and store managers noticed so they asked her if she was feeling well. She said she felt fine and it was probably just allergies. They had her fill out the covid coach survey again and it said she could still work. HOWEVER, within the past week she has left once early for not feeling well, and was also wearing a giant coat on the floor because she has chills. Myself and my fellow partners were feeling really uncomfortable and worried about working around her. It doesn’t seem like she’s washing her hands every time our hand washing alert goes off either. What advice do you have? I do not want to get sick. When we asked our SM if she was going to send her home anyway, she said “no she’s fine it’s just allergies.” Am I being paranoid or over reacting? What would you do?

As long as she’s passing the COVID coach, there’s not much that you can do. You can’t force other partners to make better decisions, you can only control yourself. You can definitely take your concerns to your manager, but it’s unlikely that there’s much they can or will do beyond having a conversation with the partner in question.

Yeah, you are right. Thanks for your advice! I think I am personally just very paranoid about covid. My store is in Texas, in an area where a lot of people don’t take this seriously and are constantly shopping, eating out, and gathering in large groups.

Make sure that she doesn't have a fever and that the thermometer is working and correctly set (ours used to switch itself to "room temp" instead of "person temp" but since we did Covid Coach by the warming ovens we didn't always notice).

If she WANTS to work and is acurately answering the Covid Coach... there's not much you can do.

If she DOESN'T want to work and believes that she may be sick or has reason to think she has been exposed, that's another story. Covid Coach may allow her to work and the SM may even pressure her to work, but partners who have reason to believe they have been exposed have been successful in pushing back and requesting a quarantine for themsleves.
