I am literally always on customer support. I would say 7-8/10 shifts are on customer support. It’s also not like for two hours, it’s for four or five, sometimes my whole shift.
I’ve read a lot of comments on other reddit’s that are like “oh you should take it as a compliment because cs is hard and not having a good one can be a detriment to the store”. I get that, and I do take pride in being good at it.
However, recently i’ve been feeling burned out. I get annoyed when people ask me to grab them stuff from the back and my whole mood changes when I realize i’ve been placed on cs yet again. I normally don’t mind doing it. After all, I know that you’re not going to always get your preference and cs is part of the job.
I’m just sick of being placed on customer support disproportionately not only to my other shifts that I have in the week, but compared to other partners as well. I’m still fairly new. I’ve been working for about 8 months, and I feel if I were to be rotated to bar and warming and stuff, that I would be a much more well-rounded employee. I also feel like I would enjoy coming to work more if I didn’t just expect to be doing dishes every time I clock in.
I honestly just need advice on how to approach my manager to talk about. I think if I don’t say anything, I’ll probably end up getting burned out and leaving, but I do enjoy my job for the most part. I just need some variation. And as CS is my least favorite position AND i’m not getting much rotation, I’m just not getting that variation that I think I need.
Let me know if y’all have any advice or have experienced something similar. I’d really appreciate it.

I don’t think it’s bad to tell the playcaller that you’re always on CS, and ask if you can do something different. If they put you on there at the beginning of your shift, maybe you can say “okay sure but after my 10 can I do bar/DTO/reg etc?” That’s way it also doesn’t come off “i’m not doing that” but you get to voice your concern. People gotta be rotated!

This! Just ask! I went to go on my last ten and was like "I'll be honest, I'm feeling a bit dizzy from being on drive bar all day since I don't usually do that," (since cold foam/cold bar drinks leave you spinning in circles quite literally; I'm usually on cafe/mobile bar or CS/CBS/flex) and the play-caller put me on warming! \^\_\^ A nice end to my shift near the toasty ovens on a cold day, and closer to the back where my drink was to sip on it when we didn't have food.

I used to get placed at the window, for almost 2 months straight. One day I got so fed up with it that I begged my shift to just let me be anywhere else because I just needed a break from customers, and she asked me why I hadn’t told her earlier because she thought I enjoyed talking to people so that’s why she always put me there. I think it’s worth talking to your shifts and expressing that you’d like to be placed somewhere different just for a change of pace. After telling them they’ll probably be more conscious of not putting you in the same position constantly. Good luck!

Just ask. My manager determines where everyone will be, not the sm. But I just got transfered a few months ago to a drive thru. I had to get used to it so I didn't mind being put on CS, but taking orders at the window was really draining. I have social anxiety, so sometimes it's really hard for me. I want to be great at every aspect of my job, so I love to be moved around constantly. I love being on bar or warming because the time seems to go by a lot faster, but if I'm having an off day, I might not perform so well. But I found it frustrating the manager wouldn't put me on bar. How else are we supposed to learn. I've even on mobile and bar more often so I think she might be considering me in this role more often. If not I'll ask, but I've noticed she tends to stick with certain people on bar she feels comfortable with. My partners will usually ask to be free of a role and as long as the other partner is cool with it, they switch.
