Lockdown and store closures (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by M_Night_Sammich
So clearly this will be all speculation, but as the US faces a massive increase to its already dreadful infection rate (thanks thanksgiving and Black Friday shoppers), do we think cafes will close like before? Any rumors of corporate repeating what they previously did with hazard pay?

I never thought we’d need a round two, but here we are. I’d love to hear what y’all think!

It would be nice if they would just close the lobby’s of all us stores and just do drive and delivery only. I’m tired of getting threatened by people who don’t want to wear a mask

Are all US states not closed via Starbucks lobby closure? I know TX stores did.

Grab and go is still available... which puts them inside the store and ready to harass everyone around them

Yes. Cafés and lobbies.

I'm in NYC. Our café was open for two days, and immediately was closed again as per corporate mandate. We're whispering about the lobby closing and doing outdoor lines (good luck to our sales numbers) by the end of December. Our SM hasn't gotten word yet, and is the kind of person who won't speak without being sure of something, so the speculation is staying between us partners and shifts.

Hazard pay, I'm guessing, is doubtful. I haven't heard a word about it. I know this will come off as insensitive to most, but I spend a lot of time thinking business-wise. That said, from a business perspective they're taking a pretty big risk giving US partners a raise during a global pandemic. Yes, they're a huge company, but hazard pay took a large chunk of their reserves. They're one of the best companies to work for in terms of benefits, care, etc. but I don't know if they can afford to shell out cash again the way they did before. I'm not sure how that's going to work.

I'm expecting that as we approach part deux of this closure-type situation, most locations won't close the way they did before. Closures will be limited so that there's access to a Starbucks every (select distance between locations). That'll impact large cities the most, especially here in NYC where most monetary traffic is pedestrian.

We were open with regular operations long enough to have a happy hour and red cup day, then everyone got sick after. Now we’re down to reduced store hours and modified operations until further notice. I’m thinking the company will probably have stores not open inside for awhile
