New shift needs advice (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by Wheatyeeter9
Reposting from r/Starbucks bc apparently this sub is where the actual baristas hang out so sorry.

Hi all, I recently made shift, and ever since it seems I have been getting berated by the SM nonstop. I admittedly think I only got promoted bc we had a few shifts quit at the same time for various reasons, but I was essentially fast-tracked into the position. I had about a week of training before I ran the floor for the first time.

Now it seems that my SM is yelling at me for things I wasn’t even aware I had to do, berating me for not running the floor well, and constantly telling me I am not good at my job. Instead of using mistakes as teaching moments, they often yell at me in frustration. We are one of the busier stores in our district so I understand that when things go wrong on the floor it really affects customers, so SM gets stressed but that results in me getting yelled at.

It’s at the point that I dread coming to work every day I am scheduled to work with them. It exacerbates my anxiety issues and I am constantly on edge. I’m pretty sure this isn’t how an SM normally should behave but I really don’t know. Any other shifts have advice on what I can do to make it better? And is this something that warrants reaching out to the dm or HR? Is that even gonna do anything

I'd call PCC. It's never okay for anyone in a professional setting to yell at someone they work with. You seem really nice trying to understand why she would yell at you, but just remember. It's never okay to yell at someone as a way of expression. And remember, if you don't tell anyone you called, no one has to know
