Hi guys! I’ve been working at starbucks for about little bit over a month now, and i’m terrified of calling out. No one really told me how to do it? My SM during my training really emphasized on letting him know three weeks in advance if i can’t make a shift and i understand that but what do you do on the day of? I just want to know what i can do, for example, if i have a shift at 1 and call at 10 saying i can’t make it is that too short of a notice? will i get written up? i’m actually anxious to ever call out but my mental health is declining very badly and i just want to know what i’m able to do. i hate going into work with a negative mindset :(
I’d just like to know what’s the calling out etiquette i guess? i’m very anxious at the thought of getting written up..

Call the store, ask for the shift lead, let them know you’re under the weather and can’t make it in. I’ve had baristas call out me as much as 40 minutes before their shifts. It’s annoying but that’s life, earleir is better though

Far as I could tell, (at least as far as the app works) the 3 weeks is for requesting time off. So like if you have an event at least 3 weeks out, let your manager know and then you wont be scheduled that day.
As for calling out, I think you just call in and say something like, "I cant make it in today, I'm not feeling well."
As far as getting written up, I think it depends on the manager.

if you can, try and find coverage but call out and just be like hey im unfortunatly not gonna make it for \_\_\_\_\_ reasons i tried to find coverage but was unable sorry and then they usually say thank you for calling or what not

I've had people call out on me like 5 minutes before their shift started. I think it really depends as far as getting written up. If someone works hard during my shifts, and is always showing up and on time, then I know that they're probably going through some shit if they call out once in a blue moon.
