Transfer Out of State: Pay (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by BFoley727
Does anyone have experience transferring and asking to keep your current pay rate? I’m moving from CA to OR and I’m currently getting paid more than I would be where I’m going. Is there a way to advocate for keeping my current pay and how do I increase my odds of doing so?

You’ll have to negotiate with your incoming DM.

Other comments are correct- your new DM has the discretion to make this happen. As a former SM, I would advocate for this with my DM for incoming partners if I received a positive recommendation from their outgoing SM or DM. If not, there was (imo) no reason to to pay someone at a higher rate (relatively speaking) than my current partners, with all the potential morale issues and resentment that could ensue. Although I make it a practice to never discuss my specific pay with my coworkers, I know that most partners do and I have seen this situation cause problems quite a few times in the past.

When I moved from IL to UT, where the minimum wage is less, my pay decreased ): this was in 2016 though so that could have changed
