So due to the rising numbers of COVID, my store has been forced into block scheduling again. Due to me working two jobs, this doesn’t affect my hours that much, but my shifts and other baristas who rely on Starbucks for their income are now cut by as much as 12 hours a week!!! That’s ridiculous.
I know that scheduling can be a hassle, and that block scheduling is designed to keep everyone away, but there are some people who are the only income-maker in their home and need that money. All the people in corporate get to work from home until 2021 and yet we are still on the front lines and get nothing but shit for it, excuse my language.
So then why, pray tell, are we not going back to getting COVID pay again? I’m lucky that I have another job I can work extra at (for much less money mind you), but some of these partners don’t get that luxury.
To top it all off, our store is being closed for renovations and we are being FORCED to use our own vacation time (of which I have none cause I just hit a year in july) or take unpaid time off while the store is renovated. There is only one other store in the district and they are getting closed every week due to a COVID related incident, so I don’t feel safe going over there.
I just don’t get why Starbucks says that it values it’s partners and then does stuff like this. And if it’s just our DM or something, is there any way to counteract it? (Our dm is out on a 60 day leave btw so I can’t chat with him)
