thinking of quitting (self.starbucksbaristas)

Should I have a letter of resignation as well as verbally quitting? I’ve just never quit a job before lol 🙃🙃🙃

Not a Starbucks employee but I do the trifecta: let them know, hand them a physical letter, and send an email with a pdf of the letter.

Be sure to include information as to why you’re quitting (make sure it’s nice unless if you have actual concerns, but still keep it polite)

Unlikely, but if they ever give you a bad reference for quitting unannounced you have the time stamp on the email. The manager is also less likely to forget with a physical copy. (And if you ever work in a business setting, old people love a nice typed up letter.)

do you think it would be okay to hand them a letter the next day? like should I wait until I have a physical copy ready to talk to my manager

Should be done all at once, and should be done two weeks in advance of your last intended day. Nothing says unprofessional like not giving an employer time to get your shifts covered or hire a new employee.

Also, unless there is something concerning that needs to be addressed (safety at work, for example), it’s usually best to be generic on the letter: I’m leaving to pursue other goals - or - I have been hired on at another job more in line with my goals. Never burn a bridge if you can avoid it.

Yes exactly as above says with the generic politeness.

And preferably all at once. Again, unlikely, but if you do it verbally they could terminate you early.

The only time I’ve deviated was when I moved from my “starter” job to my dream job. My supervisor knew I had applied and interviewed—but she was cool and all about helping us make career moves :) I still gave her a letter and a month to find someone so I could help train
