Advice for an aspiring shift? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by greenleafsheep
Today my SM approached me and asked if I was interested in interviewing for a shift leader position, within the next two weeks. Do you have any advice for the interview process or being a shift leader in general? Any pros and cons?

Don't. Don't be an aspiring shift. Sincerely, a former shift.

Being a shift- hone your time management skills. Will make or break a lot of your shifts.

Listen to your baristas. I don’t think this is talked about enough, it’s all “the store, the food, the customers” etc. Keep the positivity but also give them an ear to just vent sometimes. Get a good feel of their needs that day too, and take how they’re feeling into consideration. Granted, it’s not always gonna be a good day for everyone. You may be the shift, but taking suggestions from them and hearing them out is super beneficial.
Also, Switch positions, don’t keep them in one spot.
