Well what does your availability say? Do you have a pretty open availability after work? Or did you only offer 15-25 hours a week?

If you have the availability, your manager is going to take advantage of that. And it’s very likely that the partners who want 40 hours a week or the personally only coming in for 2 3.5 hour shifts don’t have the necessary availability to be getting more hours. If you want less hours, then offer less hours on your availability.

And even if your manager is gone, there should be another manager who is watching your store.

we have 1 store manager and my availability does say 15-25 hrs as agreed when I was hired. And when I was hired I asked to work ~20 a week unless they need me to cover more or less depending on the week :) i have availability at nights and most people want to work mornings, so it is probably convenient for her to have me when other partners can’t work, but it isn’t what was agreed on when I got hired

Maybe your manager wasn’t, but Starbucks itself is upfront about the fact that your manager will work as well as possible with your availability. That’s why they took away preferred hours to work off the availability requests. You *used* to be able to say I’m available between these hours but I prefer to work these hours. If your availability says I can work from 3-close every day, it doesn’t matter that your manager verbally agreed to only schedule you 20 hours because Starbucks will say that they agreed to schedule you for 20 hours a week to the best of their availability. If you only want to work four hours a day three days a week, then only given four hours of availability three days a week. Otherwise, they’re within their right to schedule you from 3 to close.

And that’s typically how it works. A lot of new hires at my store want full time in the morning and aren’t willing to work later even if that’s where the hours are. And the closes end up with 40 hours a week.

I would reach out to your DM if your manager isn’t available and there’s no other manager watching your store.
