Just starting! (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by urlocaltransboy
Hello! I just got hired as a barista at a local starbucks. I’m equal parts excited and nervous and getting some tips from already working starbucks would be nice. So, is there anything I should know before I start training?? Thanks :)

It may take some time to learn all the recipes, but be patient with yourself! It will come in time. Ask as many questions as you can. My best advise would be to find your motivation, and hold it close in tough times. Remind yourself on breaks why you are doing this, or what makes you happy about tour job, when say there was an unhappy guest.

Hey! I started about 3 months ago and here’s my advice. Try your best to not get worked up about being overwhelmed. You’re gunna get overwhelmed. Also, communicate with your manager about how you feel and ask for clarification or ask what you could work on. Oh and lastly, don’t touch the bottom of the milk frothing pitcher when you finish frothing. It’s extremely hot, use the handle :) good luck!

Or when the lid pops off with a pike and spill it all over your hand. Literally makes my skin sore for the rest of the day

Thanks! My manager and I seem to already have a good connection so i’m not too worried about communication with her. I already assumed things would get overwhelming at times and I felt that way when I started my last job so I sorta know what to except in terms of that. Thanks for your comment!! Haha, i’ll definitely remember the frothing thing.

Don’t feel like you’re asking a “dumb” question. It’s better to ask and be safe than to be wrong. And don’t worry/stress too much. A lot of the job is overwhelming, don’t like it get to you too much (same with rude customers). Your trainer is there to help you so make sure that if you’re confused you ask for clarity.

Always test if the lid is properly on the cup by lifting it from the top with your fingers. This just saved you maaaaany spills & burns

partner of over 2 years here. be patient with yourself, and if you have a good trainer they’ll be patient with you too! It took me about 3 months to finally feel like I had a grip on register and bar. It definitely can feel overwhelming but you’ll get the hang of it in your own time. your staff should support you and make you feel at home. hardest part for me was remembering how many pumps of syrup go in different drinks. you got this!

Thanks! My manager and I have a pretty good connection so I’m hopeful that it’ll be like that with the rest of the staff. I’m fairly good at being patient with myself and i’m not afraid to ask questions. Thanks for the advice! I’m super excited :)
