I'd call back and say you took your temp and it was over 100. If you dont feel like it's safe to come in please don't. Don't put the rest of your team and their families at risk just because your SM isn't taking necessary precautions. Be safe and smart. I hope you feel better ❤

If you’ve been in direct, prolonged contact with someone who has tested positive for COVID-19, you need to call your manager back and tell them that you are going to self isolate per Starbucks standards and call PRC immediately. Your other choice is to go in to work and fail the COVID coach.

I thought about the second choice but she literally sent me a screenshot of the COVID coach saying that it doesn’t matter if we came in contact that we just have to self monitor, no matter the exposure. I just don’t even understand that and it’s news to me you know?

I think the new rule is that you only stop coming to work if you live with someone who tests positive (prolonged contact) or you test positive (or have a fever) HOWEVER, they like to say you have to call in when you’re sick but don’t really allow that. So, if you think you have covid and haven’t gotten your test back yet I’m almost certain the rule is that if you have a temperature over 101.4 or 100.4 (can’t remember which) you aren’t allowed to work for 48 hours and can use sick time. So, if you know you’ll get your results back by the end of that time you should tell your manager you had a fever (even if you didn’t...) because it’s the only way to be safe when you arent really being allowed to call out sick.

I’m sorry if this seems idk the word. I’m just kinda sick of higher ups being like, “if you’re sick DONT SHOW UP” and people getting mad at others for showing up sick, when if you call out you 1. Aren’t allowed 2. Are forced to find your own coverage which is against the handbook. And 3. Everyone gets PISSED at you for leaving them short-staffed.

Honestly I think that’s why I’m so upset, it seems silly when I really think about it and I feel like I’m being lazy if I don’t go in if I’m not dying, but I’m so tired of this mentality of them wanting coverage and putting the sake of that over everyone’s health. I know if I get COVID I’ll be fine but why am I going to show up and put everyone else at risk just for the shift to be slightly easier? And I say slightly because it’s going to be a shit show no matter what these days. I’m just at my wits end already and this sealed the deal. I’m just going to either say I spiked a fever or go in to do the COVID coach and tell her I feel awful and don’t feel comfortable

I told my manager that the day prior to us talking I had a migraine at work and told the shift countless times that I felt sick and like I was going to puke and they didn’t care, didn’t try to find me coverage, and wouldn’t let me leave early. And she turned it into my fault, saying I should’ve called in if I was that sick. And I told her it started while I was at work. I have chronic migraines, I can’t tell when they’re going to happen most of the time. And so she said, “well you should’ve made sure the shift knew you wanted to go home.” And I literally have a temperature and they let me keep working. I told my family that I feel incredibly unsafe at work because really not more than 5 partners at my store care about safety protocol or covid at all and I can’t work there anymore. I don’t even care about trying to take an unpaid LOA for a few months (which I know I would get) because covid will probably still be a problem.

I know what you mean 100%, I’m so sorry you’re experiencing it too. We’ve had several people sick or hurt, different circumstances all around and it just seems virtually no one cares. It’s so discouraging and I really don’t know where to work that would care because the rest of the food service jobs I’ve had have had the same mentality. Starbucks is the worst I’ve encountered however. It’s just sickening. The COVID stuff getting slack like hand washing and checking on partners, etc. just makes me even more infuriated

Don’t go in.
if you are not feeling well you’re allowed to call out anyway. It doesn’t matter what some dum SM says, it’s not worth the risk for you to come into work knowing what’s going on(like bruh, the possibility of corona)
You have the right to try to keep your co workers safe to the best of your ability and you have the right to call out sick no matter what guilt they may try to throw at you.
Starbucks isn’t life, it’s a job and sometimes you have to call out.
